Description Job Overview Utilities Maintenance Operator is responsible for the maintenance, operation, and construction of underground utility piping and appurtenances in field conditions for the Public Utilities Department Salary *Internal rates may vary based on the selected candidate’s current grade. Tier I $18.15/$21.00 $37,752 - $43,680 Tier II $20.80/$24.50 $43,264 - $50,960 Tier III $23.50/$26.00 $48,880 - $54,080 Tier IV $25.70/$30.00 $53,456 - $62,400Ideal Candidate Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have experience in operating various hand tools and specialized light and heavy equipment. Preferably the candidate will possess knowledge in plumbing, underground utilities/construction and/or have water and reclaimed water distribution and wastewater collection systems experience. Candidates must have the ability and willingness to work outside in a subtropical climate, adverse weather conditions, and high noise levels. The job also requires lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, climb ladders up to 35 feet, and work in confined spaces and manholes. The ideal candidate will also have the flexibility to work overtime, rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. As well as the ability and willingness to respond to emergency situations such as floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, and other natural and/or unnatural crises to provide for public health and safety and possibly working extended hours during times of emergency. Candidate must possess a valid Class “A” or “A”-Restricted Commercial Driver’s License with combination, air brakes, and tanker endorsements within one year from date of hire.
