While most of our team works remotely, Equality Ohio maintains offices in Cleveland and Columbus, and presence in the office, in community locations, or at Court may be required from time to time. font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold\"><br></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Intake and outreach to LGBTQ+ individuals and all potential clients needing legal representation;</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Assisting with legal representation for clients with civil legal needs, including drafting pleadings, attending client meetings, and attending court; </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Outreach to LGBTQ+ &amp; allied attorneys, legal-service organizations, and LGBTQ+ and community serving organizations;</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Assisting in representing Equality Ohio community events, such as Pop-Up Legal Clinics, Pride festivals, and Know Your Rights presentations;</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Assisting with the implementation of a Community Legal Needs Assessment;</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Conducing legal research and preparing memoranda of law;</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Drafting and updating </span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-style: italic; font-weight: 300\">Know Your Rights</span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\"> pamphlets on issues impacting LGBTQ+ Ohioans;</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Shared Organization Responsibilities</span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Upholding and advancing Equality Ohio’s </span><a href=\"https://equalityohio.org/about/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Candidates are required to be/have:</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">First-year through fourth-year law student or LLM candidate. </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Familiarity with issues facing the LGBTQ+ communities and underserved populations.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Strong commitment and passion for public interest and social justice work.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Excellent oral, written, and listening communication skills.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Ability to work with diverse groups in an intersectional manner and across all levels of organizations with a commitment to teamwork.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Effective public speaking and presentation skills.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Demonstrated reliability, creativity, versatility and initiative.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Proficiency with Office (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook), Google Drive and LexisNexis/Westlaw or other legal research software. </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Unwavering commitment to addressing the needs of LGBTQ+ Ohioans and underserved communities.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Awareness of the issue priorities, policy battles, and experiences of LGBTQ+ Ohioans</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Demonstrated passion for public interest and social justice work with a particular passion for the mission of Equality Ohio</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Knowledge of LGBTQ+ issues, advocacy work and the Ohio nonprofit landscape strongly preferred.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Familiarity with intersectional approaches to advocacy and the provision of legal services.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 300\">Equality Ohio’s regular business hours are 9:00am–5:00pm ET, Monday through Friday. The position may occasionally require lifting or carrying materials weighing up to 25 pounds, such as documents, a laptop, or event supplies. The role may also involve attending and actively participating in hearings, meetings, and events, which may require being active for extended periods.
