    "description": "<p>The Ashburn Volunteer Fire &amp; Rescue Department (AVFRD) is seeking a motivated, technically skilled, hands-on volunteer with a background in <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">mechanical, industrial, or electrical engineering</span> to support the <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Facilities Team</span> at <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Station 6</span>. This role focuses on repairs, preventive maintenance, and improvements to station infrastructure and systems that support emergency response operations.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>This is an ideal position for a retiree looking to give back to their community.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Responsibilities</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist with the inspection, maintenance, and upkeep of Station 6 facilities</li>\n<li>Support troubleshooting and evaluation of building systems, including:\n<ul>\n<li>Mechanical systems (HVAC, pumps, compressors, plumbing, etc.)</li>\n<li>Electrical systems (lighting, power distribution, backup systems)</li>\n<li>General facility infrastructure and equipment</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n<li>Provide technical input and recommendations for repairs, upgrades, and preventive maintenance</li>\n<li>Assist with documentation, maintenance planning, and coordination with contractors or county services as needed</li>\n<li>Support facility-related projects and improvements to ensure station readiness and safety</li>\n<li>Develop annual budgets for facilities activities</li>\n<li>Work collaboratively with AVFRD leadership and lead the facilities team volunteers to ensure that information is communicated effectively, and all team members are provided the opportunity to help where needed. </li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Qualifications</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Background or education in <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, electrical engineering</span>, or a related technical field</li>\n<li>Practical hands-on experience with building systems, maintenance, or industrial equipment is preferred</li>\n<li>Strong problem-solving and analytical skills</li>\n<li>Ability to work independently and as part of a team</li>\n<li>Willingness to volunteer time on a flexible schedule and respond to critical issues</li>\n<li>Interest in supporting fire and rescue operations through behind-the-scenes technical support</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Time Commitment</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Flexible and based on availability</li>\n<li>May include scheduled work, inspections, emergency response or project-based involvement</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Benefits of Volunteering</span></p>\n<p>Unique opportunity to apply engineering expertise in a public safety environment while supporting the safety and readiness of first responders.</p>",
