Description

Finance Faculty in Crowell School of Business (Tenure Track) Position Rank and Status This position is anticipated to be filled as a Tenure Track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, commensurate with the candidate's experience, scholarly record, and qualifications. Qualifications The Crowell School of Business seeks candidates holding a Ph.D. or other terminal degree in Finance or a closely related discipline from a regionally-accredited university. The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to effective teaching and student mentorship, coupled with a genuine desire to integrate Christian faith and learning into course content and delivery. While a terminal degree is required, preference will be given to applicants with significant professional finance experience and/or an active professional certification (e.g., CFA, CFP, FRM). Furthermore, a demonstrated ability to teach in related areas such as Economics and FinTech is highly desirable. Duties This tenure-track position requires the faculty member to balance teaching, scholarship, and service responsibilities. Teaching and Advising The primary duty involves teaching a 12 credit hour load per semester in the undergraduate and/or graduate program. This instruction must maintain a focus on high-quality Finance principles, integrated with a Christian worldview. The core teaching focus will include subjects like corporate finance, investments, and financial markets, with the potential to contribute to secondary areas such as Economics or FinTech if qualified. The faculty member will also be expected to advise students on program, course, and career-related matters. Scholarship and Professional Engagement The successful candidate must maintain an active scholarly research agenda, which is mandatory for a tenure-track appointment, leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals and other respected outlets. Furthermore, the faculty member is expected to actively engage with the finance profession through conferences and consulting. We strongly encourage pursuing consulting opportunities with Los Angeles area firms to actively involve real-world case analysis in the classroom. Service Finally, the faculty member will participate actively in school and university service, including committee work and student activities, to contribute to the mission and governance of the institution. About the Crowell School of Business Biola University The Crowell School of Business is one of nine schools that comprise Biola University. As part of a University, Crowell serves both graduate and undergraduate students. Crowell is accredited with the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Biola is an evangelical Christian university in which faculty endorse a university statement of Christian faith and community values, and are committed to the integration of faith and learning. Candidates must be willing to support Biola’s mission and preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate a clear commitment to the integration of faith into their scholarship and teaching. Biola serves a student body of over 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students and is accredited by WASC. The employee must hold personal theological beliefs that are in agreement with the Biola Doctrinal Statement (https://www.biola.edu/about/theological-positions) and maintain a lifestyle consistent with sound Christian principles and the standard of conduct promulgated by the institution. All positions at Biola University require applicants to pass a criminal background check as a condition of employment. This includes a review of any pending charges or convictions. Once a conditional offer of employment is extended, Biola utilizes the services of HireRight, a third party agency, to conduct a criminal background check. Biola also reserves the right to expand the search if applicable for the position (e.g., a Department of Transportation search for positions that require driving).
