Description Essential Functions: This job description should not be interpreted as all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position. The incumbent may be requested to perform job related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this job description. Clinical & Counseling Responsibilities (60–70%): • Conducts initial clinical intakes and psychosocial assessments for all Veterans entering the VA Program. • Develops and monitors individualized, person-centered treatment plans; revises monthly and facilitates discharge planning. • Provides weekly individual sessions and crisis intervention as needed. • Facilitates group and individual counseling using evidence-based practices (e.g., CBT, Seeking Safety, TREM). • Conducts trauma-informed counseling for clients with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI), PTSD, MST, combat-related trauma, and chronic homelessness. • Coordinates referrals for external behavioral health, addiction, or psychiatric services when required. • Collaborates with internal case management to ensure clients’ holistic needs are met— emotional, vocational, social, and spiritual. • Maintains accurate, timely documentation in accordance with contract and clinical standards. Program Coordination & Supervisory Responsibilities (20–30%): • Partners with the VA program stakeholders to ensure coordination of care and alignment with VA contract expectations. • Participates in monthly VA contractor and provider meetings, sharing clinical updates and supporting program compliance. • Provides clinical insight to support case planning and program operations in collaboration with the Director of Program Services and Program Managers. • Assists with clinical documentation review and program reporting to ensure alignment with treatment goals and VA contract deliverables. • Serves as a point of contact for VA program-related inquiries and facilitates communication between internal teams and external providers. • Contributes to quality assurance and program improvement efforts through data review and stakeholder feedback. Administrative & Compliance (10%): • Maintains client records, treatment notes, attendance records, releases, and treatment plans in accordance with contract and confidentiality standards. • Compiles and reports required statistical and outcome data. • Participates in audits, program evaluations, and internal quality assurance efforts. • Attends all required trainings, staff meetings, and professional development workshops Qualifications Knowledge of clinical counseling techniques, substance use disorders, and mental health diagnoses. Expertise in trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and other therapeutic models. Ability to conduct comprehensive clinical assessments and treatment plans. Strong supervision and team-building capabilities. Understanding of community resources and Veteran-specific needs. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication is a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. Ability to work independently and collaboratively under high-pressure situations. Committed to The Salvation Army’s mission and values MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Education and Experience: Master’s degree in social work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field from an accredited institution. Current clinical licensure in North Carolina (LCSW, LCMHC, LCAS, Clinical Psychologist); provisionally licensed clinicians may be considered. Must meet North Carolina Board requirements for full licensure. Minimum three years’ experience in providing services to those with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) and /or Veteran specific issues including PTSD, Military Sexual Trauma (MST), combat related trauma and chronic homelessness. Experience working with homeless or underserved populations preferred.
