Build the Future of Veterinary United — One Great Hire at a Time Veterinary United is growing, and we’re looking for a Director of Strategic Recruitment to lead the charge in attracting, engaging, and hiring exceptional talent across our family of veterinary hospitals. We’re looking for a strategic, relationship-driven recruiting leader who can build strong pipelines, partner closely with leadership, support clinic staffing needs, and help tell the Veterinary United story in a way that feels genuine, people-first, and aligned with who we are. Veterinary United is an independent, family-owned veterinary group based in Michigan. The Director of Strategic Recruitment plays a key role in making that happen. About the Role The Director of Strategic Recruitment leads Veterinary United’s recruitment strategy across all roles, locations, and service lines — from veterinarians and clinical team members to leadership, salary-based roles, and key Hub positions. This position blends big-picture strategy with hands-on execution . You’ll lead recruiting priorities, oversee systems and reporting, support a recruiting team, build DVM pipelines, collaborate with Marketing and Operations, and serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on workforce planning, market trends, and talent availability. The right person will be comfortable moving between strategic planning, outbound sourcing, candidate engagement, department leadership, and process improvement — sometimes all in the same day. What You’ll Do Lead Recruitment Strategy You’ll guide the overall direction of the Recruitment department, establish priorities, improve workflows, coach team members, and keep leadership informed through regular reporting and updates. Own DVM Recruitment Veterinarian recruitment is a major focus of this role. You’ll help build and maintain a measurable DVM pipeline through proactive outreach, LinkedIn sourcing, LARA list engagement, third-party recruiter relationships, and creative candidate engagement strategies. Partner Across the Organization You’ll work closely with Executive Leadership, People Operations, Operations, Marketing, Site Leaders, and external recruiting partners to align recruiting efforts with real business needs. Partner Beyond the Organization Build and maintain relationships with universities and schools across the country (and potentially beyond) to support the next generation of veterinarians and veterinary professionals. Grow our Student Ambassador and Student Representative program by holding one on ones, holding events, career fair engagement, and more! Improve Systems and Processes You’ll oversee recruiting dashboards, job postings, requisitions, candidate flow, interview processes, Predictive Index usage, and recruitment reporting to make sure the department stays organized, transparent, and effective. Support a Strong Candidate Experience From first outreach through onboarding, you’ll help ensure candidates experience Veterinary United as warm, organized, values-driven, and genuinely excited to meet them. What Success Looks Like A successful Director of Strategic Recruitment will help Veterinary United create sustainable hiring pipelines, meet DVM hiring goals, reduce time-to-acceptance, improve recruiting visibility, and build strong relationships with leaders across the organization. This person should be energized by both strategy and execution — someone who can talk workforce planning with leadership, coach a team member through a difficult requisition, update a dashboard, write a better job post, and jump into candidate outreach when needed. Key Responsibilities Lead, coach, and support the Recruitment team Own department workflows, priorities, and performance expectations Provide weekly recruiting updates to leadership Foster strong relationships across universities and schools Build and execute Veterinary United’s DVM recruitment strategy Maintain strong outbound sourcing activity through LinkedIn, LARA, and other channels Partner with Marketing on employer branding and recruitment campaigns Collaborate with Operations and Site Leaders on headcount and staffing needs Oversee recruiting dashboards, requisitions, job postings, and candidate pipelines Ensure timely applicant review and candidate movement Support interview guides, onboarding processes, and recruiting best practices Maintain strong relationships with third-party recruiting partners Use data, KPIs, and market insight to improve recruiting outcomes What We’re Looking For Experience leading recruiting strategy, preferably in healthcare, veterinary medicine, or a multi-site service organization Strong understanding of full-cycle recruitment and proactive sourcing Ability to recruit for a wide range of roles, including leadership, clinical, hourly, salary, and veterinarian positions Comfortable using recruiting metrics, dashboards, and reporting tools Strong communication skills with executives, hiring managers, candidates, and team members Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on recruiting execution Experience coaching or mentoring recruiting team members Collaborative, organized, and comfortable working across departments A people-first mindset and a genuine appreciation for culture, values, and candidate experience Why Join Veterinary United?
