Description This announcement is to maintain a pool of qualified applicants for Grounds Worker. Submission of an application and our acceptance thereof does not indicate that there are positions open, and in no way obligates Northwest MS Community College. The Grounds Worker is responsible for maintaining the overall appearance, cleanliness, and safety of the campus grounds. This position involves performing routine lawn care, landscaping, and seasonal projects to ensure a well-kept and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Grounds Worker reports to the Grounds Supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; must be able to walk, stand, bend, squat, and sit for extended periods. Ability to work in outdoor conditions, including exposure to pollen, dust, heat, cold, and other natural elements. Experience and working knowledge of lawn maintenance equipment such as weed eaters, blowers, and general lawn clean-up tools preferred. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Perform lawn maintenance tasks including mowing, weed eating, edging, trimming, and blowing. Assist with seasonal grounds projects such as sod installation, mulching, planting, drainage projects, bed weeding, campus-wide clean-up, and turf winterization. Work outdoors in varying seasonal and weather conditions. Maintain a professional and safe work environment in accordance with Northwest Mississippi Community College (NWCC) policies and procedures. Participate in daily crew and safety meetings. Assist with campus response during inclement weather events, including times when the campus may be closed. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Grounds. REQUIRED, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Attention to detail and commitment to quality work. Strong interpersonal skills to interact tactfully and courteously with students, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to collaborate with others and work effectively as part of a team. PHYSICAL DEAMANDS AND WORK CONDITIONS: Work is primarily performed outdoors year-round in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind. Regular exposure to dust, pollen, and other outdoor air quality factors. Frequent physical activity including walking long distances, standing for extended periods, bending, squatting, digging, lifting, and carrying heavy objects (up to 50 pounds). Regular use of power tools and lawn maintenance equipment. May be required to respond to emergencies or weather-related events outside of normal working hours. May be required to assist with lawn care at other college locations. May be required to work extended hours as needed.
