Description
Description
Connecticut Children’s seeks an experienced professional with proven leadership skills to join the Foundation team as the Associate Vice President of Development. As Connecticut Children's embarks on a period of significant growth, our patients, families, and donors have grown far beyond the greater Hartford area.
The Associate Vice President of Development will be responsible for identifying, cultivating and soliciting individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations capable of making major gifts to support Medical Center investment priorities.
Responsibilities
Identify, cultivate and solicit prospects capable of making major gifts to Connecticut Children’s, with focus on foundation and grant opportunities.
Develop and maintain a portfolio of 150-175 high-quality, long-term relationships with past and potential donors that maximize their capacity to provide financial support to Connecticut Children’s.
Focus on developing long-term relationships with donors and prospects through personal contact and close coordination with Connecticut Children’s Medical Center faculty, staff, volunteers as well as Foundation colleagues as needed.
Achieve annual activity and outcome goals, including set number of personal visits, major gift proposals submitted, major gifts closed and dollars raised.
Collaborate with Connecticut Children’s staff and faculty to inform them about funding opportunities; advise them on effective foundation relations processes; discuss strategies: and encourage them to pursue the appropriate opportunities.
Coordinate to ensure timely and accurate pre-and post-award processes are followed.
Engage and support selected Board Members, Executive Management Team members and Faculty leaders in developing donor relationships so that every donor has at least one personal relationship with a member of the Connecticut Children’s leadership family.
Through personal contact and donor research, identify and analyze both the capacity and inclination of these relationships to provide financial support and determine areas of interest that would inspire them to make major gifts to Connecticut Children’s. Then define and implement strategies that lead to major gifts.
Keep detailed records of the strategies, steps and progress of every relationship using the Salesforce database.
Act as Foundation liaison to volunteer leadership groups, departments and programs.
Identify and analyze potential donors, assessing both interest and capacity consistent with Connecticut Children’s capital and programmatic priorities.
Write correspondence, proposals, briefings and submit them according to agreed upon time lines. Establish and achieve specific goals for visitation and solicitation.
Facilitate appropriate acknowledgement, recognition and stewardship of gift commitments.
Actively participate and engage in a variety of cultivation, solicitation and recognition events as appropriate.
Perform additional activities related to the Development effort as required.
Supervisory Duties (if applicable)
Oversee Assistant Vice President of Development and strategic oversight of Foundations and Grants team.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience Required:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Minimum seven years’ experience with a successful track record in fundraising, including at least two years of experience with leadership gifts.
Direct experience in fundraising for a children’s hospital or academic medical center preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated ability to work independently and to successfully prioritize and complete an array of tasks and projects concurrently. Attention to detail and meeting tight deadlines are critical for success.
Exceptional judgment and ability to exercise discretion handling confidential financial and personal information.
Demonstrated ability to work with optimism and enthusiasm in a team environment, achieving one’s personal goals, while supporting others in their goals and working together on shared goals.
Superb interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop relationships with a broad range of personalities.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills that allow you to make a compelling case for Connecticut Children’s mission and investment priorities.
Knowledge of Salesforce or similar CRM will be helpful to any successful candidate.
