Description

Community Engagement Manager Indigenous Climate Action (ICA) is looking for a passionate individual  with strong community connections and a commitment to climate justice to serve as our Community Engagement Manager . We are seeking someone with demonstrated experience in community organizing to lead ICA’s engagement and outreach strategy, through online, distance, and in-person methods. This is a remote (work from home) position with regular travel within Canada and occasional opportunities to travel internationally. At ICA, we inspire action through the development of tools and opportunities created with, by and for our communities, with the goal of uplifting Indigenous voices, sovereignty, and stewardship of the lands and waters for future generations. POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Director of Communications and Engagement (DoCE), the Community Engagement Manager is part of the Inform + Connect Pod and oversees ICA’s Community Engagement Coordinators. This manager plays a key role in uplifting ICA’s original pathways of Amplifying Voices and Hosting Gatherings through their relationships and collaborations with community partners. The Community Engagement Manager works closely with the campaigns, communications, and program teams to build community contact lists, develop internal and external strategies, and nurture relationships that support ICA’s mission, vision, and values through our theory of change. The position requires demonstrated competency in the following areas: Leadership skills, including team and project management Relationship, network, and movement building Community consultation and public engagement, both online and in-person Strategic thinking with the ability to make connections between different issues and consider impacts over the longer term Understanding of Climate Justice and Indigenous Peoples rights and worldviews Budget development, tracking, and reporting on impact Event planning and coordination Verbal and written communications Public speaking The Community Engagement Manager duties are as follows: Develop and execute community engagement strategies that nurture ICA relationships with First Nation, Inuit, and Metis communities across so-called Canada; Gather stories, insight, and feedback from First Nation, Inuit, and Metis communities to inform ICA programming by hosting surveys, questionnaires, interviews, webinars, and gatherings; Work closely with the campaign, communications, and program teams to develop strategies, processes, tools, and resources that directly respond to the needs of frontline communities; Work closely with the communications team to uplift frontline community stories and calls to action through ICA newsletters, website, and social media; Lead and support the planning of special events , including community gatherings, donor/volunteer appreciation events and other fundraising initiatives; Assist with engagement of ICA’s internal network including ICA staff, National Steering Committee, Board of Directors, and Youth Leadership Council; Attend external events to promote ICA programming to First Nation, Inuit, and Metis community members in addition to broader community partners and funders; Build and steward ICA’s contact lists , utilizing best practices, to further support ICA program promotion and delivery; Nurture new and existing relationships with ICA partners, including frontline community; Maintain a calendar of outreach activities , including community events, workshops, appearances and other engagement opportunities to promote ICA and build strategic relationships; Assist with recruitment strategies for ICA’s hiring and human resources needs; Other assigned duties. QUALIFICATIONS 5+ years of community organizing and partnership building experience; Existing community relationships relevant for supporting Indigenous-led climate solutions across so-called Canada; Experience overseeing staff and contractors; Demonstrated experience planning and hosting community gatherings; Strong working knowledge of budgets including building, tracking, and reporting on expenses; Proficient with computers and navigating online software and communications systems like Zoom, Slack, Signal, Google Suite, Asana and CRM platforms; Proven success at creating and implementing effective strategies for community engagement and network building; Experience working with Indigenous-led organizations and structures that challenges systems of colonization, white supremacy, patriarchy and capitalism; Broad based knowledge of climate and environmental websites, social media sites, newsletters, list serves etc.; Comfortable with building new relationships and navigating the diversity of opinions and tensions that can exist in a community; Familiar with the values of anti-oppression and creating spaces that are inclusive; Ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally; Member of an Indigenous community and fluency in an Indigenous language is an asset; Having a working computer and strong internet access is essential for this position. This is a remote, work from home, online working position with priority given to Indigenous people who live in so-called Canada. The position is full time and entails a 35 hour work week, however as per ICA’s Four Day work week policy we strive to work 30 hours per week most weeks. Regular travel and some evening/ weekend hours may be required. The successful candidate must be willing to be flexible and work hours required to meet ICA expectations. SALARY: $85,000 - $100,000 depending on qualifications START DATE For Position: July 2026 (flexible) CLOSING DATE For Applications: June 7, 2026 Qualified persons of Indigenous Ancestry will be given preference in accordance with s.16(1) of the Canadian Human Rights Act.
