    "description": "<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p>The Medical Assistant participates as a member of the Medical Team by working closely with providers and other departments of the clinic to ensure effective patient care. </p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Takes vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, temperature) and records height and weight on all patients; obtains simple health histories, records reasons for visit, and ensures all necessary documentation is completed in electronic health record (EHR).</li>\n <li>Collaborates with providers and nurses any information and/or observation concerning patient that may influence the patient’s illness, such as abnormal vital signs, abnormal response to patient screening, and/or adverse reactions to medications/blood draws. </li>\n <li>Works to ensure patient satisfaction; establishes rapport with patients and delivers care in a professional manner.</li>\n <li>Provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served (i.e., infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, or geriatric).</li>\n <li>Performs visual acuity, hearing tests, EKGs, and nebulizer treatments as needed.</li>\n <li>Ensures all exam rooms are stocked with the necessary equipment needed for patient care.</li>\n <li>Performs venipunctures and point-of-care testing as directed by providers’ orders. </li>\n <li>Administers vaccinations under the supervision of onsite nurses/providers.</li>\n <li>Cleanses minor wounds and changes dressings with direct supervision.</li>\n <li>Keeps lab, immunization room, and general department areas neat and clean and disinfects all surfaces daily.</li>\n <li>Conducts various phone calls with outside offices, laboratories, insurance offices, pharmacies, intra-departments to assist with coordinating care.</li>\n <li>Maintains knowledge of programs provided such as Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP), Medi-Cal, Family Planning, Every Woman Counts (EWC), etc.</li>\n <li>Adheres to domestic violence and child, dependent, and elder abuse protocols.</li>\n <li>Maintains and adheres to confidentiality and privilege communication protocols (e.g., patient, employee, clinic, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) as set forth by SYTHC.</li>\n <li>Adheres to of all safety policies and procedures inclusive of infection control rules and regulations, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance, and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).</li>\n <li>Participates in health conferences, committees, and trainings as directed.</li>\n <li>Upholds a work environment that promotes teamwork, partnership, recognition, mutual respect, and collaboration, while role modeling the company values, behaviors, and culture of One.Team.Chumash. </li>\n <li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>High School Diploma or GED Certificate.</li>\n <li>Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science or equivalent work experience. </li>\n <li>Valid CPR Certification. </li>\n <li>Three years of prior experience in a healthcare field. </li>\n <li>Bilingual in English and Spanish are preferred. </li>\n <li>Intermediate computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft applications, e-mail, and internet.</li>\n <li>Intermediate proficiency with electronic health records. </li>\n <li>Native American hiring preference applies.</li>\n <li><strong>Strategic Thinking:</strong> Understands and processes complex information and exercises sound judgment, considering the situation, the issues, the key players, and the levels of authority involved.
