Our teams are dynamic and fast paced since our hardware is cutting edge.\n\n POSITION SUMMARY: \n\nWe are seeking an R&D engineer who specializes in compact and robust mechanical and optical design, assembly, and testing. As a hands on R&D Engineer at AOSense, you will work with physicists and engineers to develop and test high performance, fieldable accelerometers, gyroscopes, gravimeters, atomic clocks, frequency standards, and magnetometers.\n\n RESPONSIBILITIES: \n\n Collaborate with physicists and engineers to rapidly iterate designs and prototypes\n Work with electrical, mechanical, and optical engineers to create, assemble, and test complex sensor and clock hardware\n Procure mechanical and optical components\n Coordinate component and subsystem fabrication and assembly\n Assemble and test vacuum systems\n Align lasers through single mode optical fibers and through bulk electro optic and acousto optic devices\n Collaborate with electrical engineers to define, document, and implement PCB test plans\n Build and test prototype circuits and test fixtures\n Procure and maintain mechanical and optical test equipment\n Report results of validation testing\n\n Requirements\n\n Demonstrated success in building complex optomechanical prototypes and products\n Willingness to become an expert at new fabrication disciplines\n Hands on experience with precision test equipment\n Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills\n Applicants should thrive in a dynamic environment\n U.S. Government contracts require applicants to be U.S. citizens or permanent residents\n\n DESIRED EXPERIENCE: \n\n Skilled in mechanical prototyping, including basic machining and finishing operations\n Hands on experience with vacuum system design, assembly, and testing\n Expertise in aligning and securing micro optics components\n Basic understanding of Gaussian beam optics\n Experience with optical testing of polarization, wavefront flatness, reflectivity, optical phase shifts, beam aberrations, etc.\n Operational familiarity with laser frequency stabilization\n Skilled in electrical prototyping, including PCB fabrication, assembly, soldering, and rework\n Experience testing low noise analog, mixed signal, and rf electronics\n Basic knowledge of data acquisition and simulation software such as MATLAB, LabVIEW, Visual Basic, Python, and C or C++\n Experience with mechanical and optical design software (e.g., SolidWorks, COMSOL, ANSYS, Zemax, and FRED)\n Familiarity with OrCAD/Altium schematic capture and PCB layout\n Experience developing flight qualified hardware\n Hands on experience with optical test equipment\n\n EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: \n\nBachelor’s degree in physics or engineering, or equivalent professional experience, with experience in an R&D environment\n\n Benefits\n\n Salary depends on qualifications and experience\n Medical and dental\n Retirement\n Stock plan\n\nAOSense is an equal opportunity employer (EOE) and considers qualified applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, protected veteran or disability status, or any other federal, state or local protected class.\n\nAOSense is committed to providing equal employment opportunity to qualified individuals with disabilities.
