PROGRAM: English Language & Multicultural Services (ELMS) & Smithers Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) POSITION: Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) Coordinator JOB TYPE : Regular Part-Time JOB POSTING #: JP-020-2026 WORK HOURS: The regular working hours for this position are 14 hours per week (0.4 FTE) , with up to an additional 4 hours per week on a casual basis as required. The program offers free multi-level English classes, volunteer tutor matching, information and orientation, community connection services, employment services, and cultural learning activities. The service utilizes learner-centered approaches to teach and introduce newcomers to Canadian culture and resources, to connect them with the community and to strengthen English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. A welcoming and supportive community is built through shared intercultural experiences. The Smithers Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and brings together local government, community agencies, associations, and other partners to develop and implement initiatives that support immigrant and refugee settlement and integration in the community. The LIP serves as a collaborative planning table that may include representatives from settlement and community services, education, business, recreation and culture, policing, libraries, volunteer organizations, and other key stakeholders, and may be supported by immigrant advisory input. POSITION SUMMARY: The LIP Coordinator is responsible for the implementation and coordination of the Smithers Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) initiative, which aims to improve settlement and integration outcomes for newcomers within the community. This role involves building and strengthening relationships between local service providers, stakeholders, and the newcomer community to ensure the delivery of effective programs and services. The LIP Coordinator works to develop strategic partnerships, facilitate collaboration, and assess the community's settlement needs, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and services are accessible to newcomers. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports To:  ELMS Program Manager Direct Reports: LIP Assistant RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Smithers LIP initiatives. Consult and liaise with ELMS Program Manager and ELMS Settlement Team to understand and coordinate the engagement of key stakeholders and community contacts. Facilitate the establishment of the Smithers LIP Council and the development of a comprehensive LIP plan, ensuring alignment with community needs and impact targets. Maintain and strengthen relationships with local service providers, government agencies, and immigrant-serving groups, while building new partnerships for newcomer integration. Establish a LIP Advisory Board of newcomers to ensure diverse perspectives in decision-making and program development. Organize and lead meetings, working groups, and community forums according to LIP plan. Act as the liaison between LIP working groups to enhance synergies and collaboration among the respective action plans. Research the best practices and suggest project ideas that enhance newcomers' cultural and community integration and support LIPs strategic planning; Liaise with LIPs representatives in other regions to share and coordinate project ideas, research, outreach and promotional opportunities. Research streams for further funding and develop grant proposals based on strategic needs. Develop cash flow, prepare monthly expense claims, financial and narrative reports. Conduct evaluations and collect feedback that measure the project’s impact and successes. Assist with other ELMS program activities as needed (e.g. Assist with Community Connection events, Volunteer Management, etc.). QUALIFICATIONS: Post-Secondary education and experience in immigration services, adult education, social services or a related discipline and/or combination of equivalent relevant education and experience. Must work well with people and demonstrate knowledge of the challenges that may be part of immigrant settlement in Canada. A demonstrated record of working with diverse populations and building collaborative relationships. Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as sound computer and social media skills. Demonstrated administrative, leadership, and management abilities SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Demonstrated experience in promoting understanding and respect for diverse cultural backgrounds. Consistently demonstrates the ability to engage positively in professional contexts. Skilled in attentively understanding issues and devising effective solutions. Excellent proficiency in written and verbal communication, along with the ability to deliver engaging presentations. Competent in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and other related software for productivity. Highly motivated and detail-oriented, with a strong aptitude for organizing tasks and prioritizing effectively. Possesses the ability to understand and manage personal emotions as well as empathize with others. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be legally authorized to work in Canada. Understand and be committed to terms of confidentiality and sign a pledge of confidentiality. Undergo a Criminal Record Check Possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
