Description
A Security Officer 1 is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment by patrolling and monitoring premises, controlling access, and responding to emergencies. They enforce security protocols, conduct investigations, and report any suspicious activities or incidents. Additionally, they may assist with crowd control, perform security screenings, and provide assistance to visitors or employees as needed. Strong observational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle stressful situations calmly are essential for this role.
Essential Functions
· Enforce Security Department and Hospital policies with professionalism and respect.
· Respond promptly to emergency situations, including within two minutes for designated code responses.
· Use proper etiquette and tone when communicating over radio and telephone systems.
· Apply physical restraints as needed, adhering to department policies and procedures.
· Perform vehicle jump starts and flat tire refills using appropriate equipment upon request.
· Monitor the hospital environment for safety concerns, report hazards, and follow up as needed.
· Conduct orderly traffic control to ensure safety on hospital premises.
· Troubleshoot basic problems with security software and equipment and use them effectively.
· Complete detailed incident reports accurately, providing timelines and all pertinent details.
· Utilize de-escalation techniques to resolve potentially violent or confrontational situations.
· Maintain composure during critical incidents and ensure protection of people and property.
· Inspect and report damage or malfunction of hospital property in a timely manner.
· Maintain Florida Security “D” License and complete all required training and in-services.
· Foster teamwork and cooperation with other officers and hospital staff.
· Provide excellent customer service through courteous and professional interactions with patients, visitors, and staff.
· Provide observation of patients with responsibility to alert the nurse when intervention is needed and maintains confidentiality of patients per hospital policy.

Additionally, must obtain Basic International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) certification within one year of hire.
