Description

Description Primary purpose: To provide a high level of technical support on a regional or system basis relating to corrosion control and pipeline integrity. Design and maintain cathodic protection and internal corrosion control facilities. Conduct internal and external specialized corrosion tests on steel structures. Level 1 is an entry level position with approximately six to twelve months of training/work experience in order progress to next level Responsibilities Essential duties and responsibilities: Responsible for all activities related to corrosion control and pipeline integrity, including design, installation, operation, and maintenance, cathodic protection facilities, power lines, galvanic anodes and internal corrosion control facilities. Monitor the condition of the pipeline through pipe-to-soil potentials, visual inspection, examination of coupons, data from in-line tools, etc. Monitor electrical isolation and identify points of electrical shorts. Conduct various tests, measurements, and surveys to ensure efficient operation of cathodic protection facilities. Lead efforts to design and implement effective long term cathodic protection systems. Prepare drawings, job specifications and contract bid documents. Conduct atmospheric corrosion inspections for all aboveground piping and assist in developing remediation plans on atmospheric piping. Assist E&C and Engineering personnel with the evaluation / development / implementation and maintenance of facility grounding systems. Highly motivated self-starter with ability to complete and prioritize work assignments with minimal daily supervision. Identify, report and correct safety and environmental concerns. Complete appropriate documentation and paperwork. Oversee the construction and/or work activities performed by third parties. Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, and regulatory and tariff requirements. Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence. Mentor fellow employees when the opportunity presents itself. Evaluate and remediate corrosion anomalies i.e., pits, gouges, dents, etc. Excellent communication skills and ability to deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism. Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance. Will work non-traditional hours as needed. Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public. Other daily, weekly, monthly or special project duties as identified and defined. Qualifications Minimum requirements: Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Preferred Associates degree from an accredited institution in a technical field or a related discipline, or direct work experience in pipeline system operations may be considered as substitute for a degree. Experience/Specific Knowledge: Understand and operate all corrosion related instrumentation. Good record of safe work practices. Working knowledge of environmental and safety aspects of coating projects. Ability to operate and maintain chemical injection and pressure access equipment. Ability to estimate installation, operating and maintenance expenses associated with corrosion systems. Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. Certifications, Licenses & Registrations: May be required to achieve and maintain certifications as required to perform job duties. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel). Competencies, Skills & Abilities: Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals). Good verbal and written communications skills. Strong customer focus and attention to detail. Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job. Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules. Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines. Ability to organize and prioritize daily work. Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate. Physical Demands: All of the physical requirements listed below are those that may be necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to safely handle and maneuver equipment or materials over distances up to 30 feet, often requiring sustained physical exertion. Working Conditions: Varying working conditions from office settings to working outdoors in inclement weather conditions. Working with and around industrial hazards. Frequent travel, sometimes overnight, may be required. Occasional overtime may be required. Living environs will be relevant to the work location to address call outs and emergency response. May be required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours. The selected candidate must successfully pass a drug screening, background check, and fit-for-duty examination, including credit reports for specific positions—after receiving a job offer and before commencing employment Supervisory Responsibility: None PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Above the minimum requirements: not required but advantageous in this position: NACE certification Experience in all phases of corrosion control and pipeline integrity as described in the Job Responsibilities. Experience with CPDM, RSTRENG, and Allegro/AI Tablet. Previous working knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems, corrosion related portions of NEC, and NACE standards. Prior knowledge of company policies and DOT regulations. Knowledge and experience with safe handling practices of products (gas and liquids). 3 years’ experience in the pipeline industry or related field.
