Description
The faculty member will teach lectures and labs in human anatomy & physiology, including dual credit sections offered in partnership with area high school districts. Courses are offered during the day, evening, and/or online. Other responsibilities include assessment, course development, service activities, campus engagement, and professional development. Mentoring undergraduate students in research projects is encouraged.
Essential Functions
Teach a combination of anatomy and physiology lectures and labs courses to fulfill a standard full-time instructional load equivalent to 15 lecture equivalent hours (15 LEH) each Fall and Spring semester; may be assigned additional biology courses (e.g., environmental or general biology) as needed based on departmental demand and instructor qualifications
Teach dual credit sections of human anatomy & physiology in partnership with area high school districts; instruction may occur on high school campuses, at Midland College, or online
Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum
Recommend textbooks and instructional materials to be used in the instructional program
Be available to students through office hours, effective use of Canvas, and electronic communication
Identify students who are at risk for course failure and employ early interventions to promote student success
Assist the Program Chair in scheduling and staffing all biology lectures and lab classes
Assist with the development of departmental goals and objectives
Coordinate with appropriate Midland College personnel to recruit new biology and work to increase enrollment in the Biology Department
Serve on departmental, division, and college-wide committees as requested
Help to orient new full-time and part-time faculty
Stay current with trends and innovations in the field: maintain professional status through organizational memberships, advanced study, publication, and/or community-related service
Maintain academic records as required by the college, accreditation agencies, and law
Fulfill faculty roles and responsibilities as outlined in Midland College Policy and Administrative Regulations as published in the Employee and Faculty Handbook
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in Biology, Anatomy, Physiology or related field
General classroom instruction and experience working or teaching in a lab
Commitment to student success, early intervention and academic support practices
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
College level teaching experience in lecture and lab settings
Demonstrated ability to work with students of varying academic preparedness, backgrounds, and age groups
Experience teaching or working with high school aged students or dual credit populations
Proficiency with a Learning Management System (Canvas preferred)
Ability to teach effectively in face-to-face, online, hybrid and/or hyflex course formats
Physical Demands
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
The person in this position needs to move to other locations on campus
Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
Use of manual dexterity
Frequently moves boxes or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds
Office, classroom, and laboratory setting
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
