The GXMO (General X-Ray Machine Operator), under the direction of the Radiologists, manager and director, is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in maintaining an orderly, clean, and safe environment and to ensure the efficient patient flow through the exam rooms. The GXMO participates in providing culturally based, age specific care to patients with support by a Licensed Radiologic Technologist. Licensed GXMO can perform radiographs under their license’s modules per the ODH rule 3701-72-04(f).
Responsibilities
PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY):
o Engages in population-appropriate communication.
o Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
o Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.
o Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient.
o Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
o Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
o Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately.
o Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely.
o Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
Additional Responsibilities/Skills:
• Demonstrates the ability to lead work groups to provide quality service.
• Works with staff to adjust schedules for emergencies, walk-ins, and add-on patients.
• Maintains a positive attitude.
Accreditation/Regulations:
• Keeps up to date with regulations.
• Assists with certification, annual updates and actively participates in regulatory inspections.
• Recognizes areas of non-compliance and corrects immediately. \
Job Knowledge/Skills:
• Performs X-ray and/or DEXA exams within the scope of the GXMO module(s) in which the certification has been acquired and documented.
• Properly sets up and operates the Radiology equipment.
• Ensures the patient is positioned correctly for the scan and explaining the procedure to the patient.
• Regularly assists the patient in assuming the required position necessary for producing quality images and taking additional views if required.
• Accurately document patient information.
• Performs Radiology exams in accordance with ODH rules, which include, but is not limited to, reviewing for appropriateness and completeness of patient histories and requested services.
• Prepares images, prior studies and paperwork including patient history and location of previous images.
• Maintains appropriate records and supplies. Assists with meeting all requirements for the different accreditations.
• Obtains and maintains required licensure. Demonstrates and maintains skill in providing care for patients of specific age groups, such as adults and geriatric, through in-service and continuing education.
• Operate all equipment safely, following protocol.
• Use appropriate techniques to ensure quality diagnostic images.
• Ability and willingness to demonstrate and maintain clinical competency as required by the department for assignment.
• Completes mandatory educational requirements.
Patient Care:
• Maintains clean and orderly exam rooms; maintains and cleans equipment.
• Trained to use RIS, HIS, PACS to research patients’ previous exams and reports.
• Licensed GXMO can perform radiographs according to the ODH rules.
• Working with other healthcare professionals, such as radiologists, to ensure optimal patient care.
• Creates a friendly, caring, and comforting patient environment.
• Ensure patient safety through proper techniques in radiation safety.
• Maintain a safe environment by monitoring patient conditions, assessing risk factors, and recognizing and responding to emergencies.
• Strictly adhere to hospital policies regarding infection prevention.
• Adheres to patient privacy and confidentiality regulations as outlined in HIPAA and demonstrates respect for patients.
Radiation safety:
• Monitoring the patient’s well-being during the scan and taking appropriate action if needed.
• Maintains a working environment where radiation exposure to self and coworkers is as low as reasonably achievable.
• Selects and uses proper shielding to reduce radiation exposure.
Quality:
• Performing all imaging according to established protocols and documents.
• Performing routine quality control checks on the DEXA equipment to ensure its accuracy and reliability.
• Perform all quality control tests at proper time intervals as established by equipment manufacturers and regulations.
• Produces the highest quality of work in a reasonable amount of time.
Performance Improvement:
• Accommodates, facilitates, and is receptive to changing departmental needs i.e. scheduling, and protocol changes.
• Demonstrates knowledge of performance improvement goals.
• Assesses/evaluates self-performance and establishes personal performance improvement goals.
• Offers suggestions regarding continuous departmental improvement.
Communication/Organizational Skills:
• Demonstrates organizational and communication skills to promote the well-being of the Radiology Department.
• Consistently exhibits attention to detail.
• Completes tasks in a timely effective manner.
• Maintains professional attitude in the workplace.
• Communicates problems to department leadership.
• Negotiates problems and helps find workable solutions for them.
• Demonstrates knowledge of department policies and procedures staying current with changes.
• Regularly attends and participates in staff meetings and in-services.

Qualifications
Minimum Required: High School Diploma or GED.
Must have a valid GXMO license from ODH, specific to the modules of studies being performed.
Current BLS certification by the American Heart Association to be obtained within first 30 days of employment.
Minimum Required: 0 - 6 Months equivalent experience.
