The Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (WOC) Lead functions as an integral member of the patient care team by providing education and specialized direct nursing care to a specific population of patients with stomas, fistulas, pressure injury, drains, incontinence or other complex skin/wound impairments when consulted by providers and/or bedside nurse. The WOC RN Lead collaborates with the attending provider, Wound Medical Director, Medical Director of Podiatry or Specialist physicians to meet complex healing and education needs for these populations. The WOC RN provides education to nursing staff to enhance their skills in risk recognition and maintenance of skin integrity and skills to provide care and education for these patient populations.
