Description

Department Overview SON faculty members who have advanced practice specialization (nurse practitioner, nurse-midwife, clinical nurse specialist or nurse anesthetist) may function in all missions of the School. Scholarly teaching is an expectation for all. Clinical teaching of other OHSU advanced practice students may be required. The faculty member must be nationally certified by the AMCB, nationally certified by the appropriate certifying body for certification outside of nurse-midwifery and licensed by the state of Oregon. The faculty member will provide services as determined by the Midwifery Clinical Director or School of Nursing Senior Associate Dean for Practice in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. Faculty members with a clinical FTE are also expected to participate in service appropriate to rank and FTE. The advanced practice faculty member is expected to comply with scope of practice, other laws, regulations, OHSU and SON policy, and other applicable professional standards of practice. Practice is the core part of this FTE assignment. The faculty member must be credentialed and privileged as a member of the Hillsboro Medical Staff and may also be required to be credentialed by the OHSU Professional Staff in accordance with the specialty bylaws. The faculty member will provide clinical services at Hillsboro Medical Center, an OHSU Partner community hospital, as determined by the Clinical Director of Nurse-Midwifery in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. Function/Duties of Position Clinical Activities: Clinical activities include session-based clinics and inpatient coverage on labor and delivery (including nights and holidays). Specific duties include: Provide supplementary coverage of labor and delivery call when the permanent faculty are ill, in retreat, traveling professionally, on vacation or on leave. The primary expectation is the provision of clinical midwifery services to patients in the faculty practice during both day and night shifts. Education Activities: Clinical education and supervision of graduate nurse-midwifery students and other OHSU learners in the provision of the services to patients in faculty practices. Midwifery students are with on call with clinical faculty approximately 90% of the time. Service Activities: For faculty with FTE, these activities may include faculty meetings, committee membership, professional activities and other responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director. Other Activities: The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. Required Qualifications Master’s or Doctoral Degree in nursing required, Doctoral Degree preferred. AMCB certification as a nurse-midwife required. Oregon RN license, nurse-midwifery license and current CPR card and NRP certification required. Demonstrated ability to satisfy standards of performance delineated by law and associated professional practice standards, the latter set forth as an addendum to the position description. Ability to manage heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Proficient in the use of computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical record, word processing and spreadsheet software. Preferred Qualifications Practice in full scope-midwifery for at minimum two years, three years is preferred. Additional Details Upload cover letter and resume. Please be sure to include months and years to the resume for jobs/experience. Working Conditions: Frequent interruptions in an environment of frequent change and fluctuations. May be exposed to excessive auditory and visual stimulation. May be required to attend out of town conferences according to School of Nursing travel and reimbursement policies. May be exposed to body fluids, tissue, possible radiation exposure, and infectious processes. Subject to computer work for several hours, as needed. Able to use all appropriate patient care equipment and office equipment within work area. Midwives are responsible for independently managing their breaks in coordination with patient care demands. Due to the unpredictable nature of labor and delivery, meal or rest periods may need to be delayed when one or more patients require immediate attention. The ability to prioritize patient care while managing personal needs in a dynamic clinical environment is essential. Physical Requirements/Demands of the Position: Standing: On concrete, vinyl, or carpeting up to 4 hours per day and intermittently. Sitting: Chair or stool continuous up to 8 hours per day and intermittently. Changing Position: Intermittently, as needed. Walking: Intermittently up to 4 hours per day on concrete, vinyl, and carpeting. Carrying: Up to 50 pounds (supplies, equipment, books, papers, etc.) for intermittent periods and distances.
