Job Description:
Dr. Brittany Perrine’s Vocal Health and Voice Physiology Research Lab is seeking a graduate student to join the team. This position provides hands-on experience with research methods in speech-language pathology, vocal performance, and health science fields, and includes additional leadership responsibilities, including supervising undergraduate RAs. The graduate assistant will engage in data collection, analysis, equipment use, and research dissemination.
This role is ideal for students pursuing careers or advanced study in speech-language pathology, audiology, vocal pedagogy, performance science, healthcare, or research.
Primary Responsibilities & Training:
Graduate Research Assistants will receive training and work on tasks such as:
• Participating in data collection sessions with study participants
• Conducting data analysis and learning data interpretation techniques
• Assisting with dissemination tasks (e.g., preparing conference posters, contributing to manuscripts)
• Training on hardware used in voice research and troubleshooting equipment issues
• Learning and using basic MATLAB and Praat scripts
• Working with data in Excel
• Supporting lab safety and maintaining a clean, organized workspace
• Attending and participating in lab meetings, as needed
• Managing and mentoring undergraduate research assistants
• Developing familiarity with research methods in speech-language pathology, voice science, and related fields
• Strengthening professional writing, reading, and oral communication skills
• Learning to articulate research methods and results in a clear, professional manner
Qualifications:
• Enrolled as a graduate student at the project start date
• Strong attention to detail and dependability
• Interest in research, clinical careers, voice science, or health-related fields
• Comfort interacting with participants and following structured protocols
• Willingness to learn new software, equipment, and research methods
• Ability to commit to a consistent weekly schedule
• Completion of required IRB and HIPAA trainings before start date
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):
Students will primarily be recruited from:
• Communication Sciences & Disorders
• School of Music (Voice, Vocal Pedagogy, Performance)
• Health, Human Performance, and Recreation (HHPR)
However, all graduate students with a strong interest and commitment are welcome to apply.
