This position is primarily focused on the delivery of the First-Year Writing (FYW) curriculum. The department seeks dedicated educators who are committed to student success in foundational composition and who can provide high-quality instruction to a diverse student body. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications A Master’s degree in English, Composition and Rhetoric, or a closely related field in the Humanities. Professional experience teaching college-level writing or composition. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple grading deadlines and administrative requirements effectively. Proficiency in utilizing Learning Management Systems (Canvas preferred). Demonstrated digital literacy and the ability to integrate educational technology into the writing classroom, including a constructive and pragmatic approach to Generative AI in alignment with departmental guidelines. Preferred Qualifications Significant experience specifically teaching First-Year Writing (FYW) and core composition. Experience working with diverse student populations and a commitment to inclusive pedagogical practices. Ability to teach across broader general education disciplines, such as literature, creative writing, film, communications, or digital media, should departmental needs arise. Compensation and Terms of Employment Compensation for this position is set at a flat rate of $1,000 per credit hour for candidates holding a Master's degree and $1,200 per credit hour for candidates holding a terminal degree (Ph.D. or MFA). This is a part-time, semester-based appointment with no guarantee of continued employment beyond the assigned sections. Application Procedures Interested candidates must submit a formal letter of interest and a current Curriculum Vitae. The cover letter should specifically address the applicant's experience with First-Year Writing pedagogy and include a statement of general availability for the upcoming semester. All materials should be submitted via the university's application portal. (This job description does not constitute an employment agreement between The University of Bridgeport and employee.
