What We Are Looking For
The Area Coordinator (AC) is responsible for ensuring student and community development in areas including academic success, faith development, cultural humility, and self-advocacy are outcomes of the on-campus residential experience in a specific residential area. The AC is also responsible for the health, safety, and crisis response protocols in their residential area. The AC supervises an Assistant Residence Hall Director (ARHD), student staff (Community Leaders - CL), resident chaplains (RC), and collaborates with a faculty in residence (FIR). Some ACs will work with an academic program director (PD). The AC chairs and leads a departmental committee. The AC reports to an Assistant Director for Resident Learning (ADRL).
A Master’s degree and one year of relevant work experience are required. A Master’s degree and three years of relevant experience are preferred.
All applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
What You Will Do
Supervise one full-time Assistant Residence Hall Director (ARHD)
Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate 5-17 student staff (Community Leaders and Community Leader Mentors)
Co-supervise a Truett Seminary graduate student serving as a part-time Resident Chaplain (RC) in the residence hall, in conjunction with Spiritual Life. Support and assist in selection processes for graduate students and full-time staff
Establish an authentic Christian community that supports academic excellence, spiritual growth, cultural humility, self-advocacy, and the importance of living life in a community
Recruit and advise student hall leadership teams, including but not limited to: leadership development, program planning, and budget oversight
Coordinate and provide support for the Living-Learning Programs and faculty involvement (i.e. Faculty-in- Residence and Faculty Steward)
Engage residents in the greater Baylor University community through utilization of campus facilities, participation in campus events, and promotion of campus activities
Develop meaningful relationships with students and maintain a high degree of visibility and availability in the residence hall
Respond to student behavioral concerns and incidents in the halls, including enacting crisis response protocols
Implement departmental learning goals encompassing concepts such as cultural humility, faith development, intellectual development, self-advocacy, and life together through intentional conversations and programming within the residence hall
Act as liaison with academic partners and Living-Learning Programs
Participate in an on-call rotation throughout the calendar year to respond to incidents and emergencies, as they occur, for a residential population of approximately 5,400 undergraduate students
Manage a residence hall front desk, including the supervision of student and/or professional staff
Manage office supply, minor equipment, and community development budgets for the residence hall
Learn and use technology platforms and other departmental website applications
Use professional development funds provided by Campus Living & Learning to engage in opportunities such as reading or writing for professional publications, active membership in a regional or national organization, attending or presenting at conferences, and taking part in Student Life and University professional development opportunities
Participate in annual departmental professional staff trainings
Conduct openings, closings, and mid-semester health and safety room inspections
Collaborate with campus partners such as Facility Services, Dining Services, Housekeeping, and the Associate Director of Facilities and Operations, to sustain and improve residence hall environments
Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission
Ability to comply with university policies
Maintain regular and punctual attendance

The AC is also responsible for the health, safety, and crisis response protocols in their residential area. The AC supervises an Assistant Residence Hall Director (ARHD), student staff (Community Leaders - CL), resident chaplains (RC), and collaborates with a faculty in residence (FIR). Some ACs will work with an academic program director (PD). The AC chairs and leads a departmental committee. The AC reports to an Assistant Director for Resident Learning (ADRL). ",
