PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:
The Research & Emerging Technologies Librarian provides research and reference services to law students and other library patrons, provides instruction in legal bibliography and research techniques. This Librarian manages all aspects of Circulation and works as part of a team to deliver high-quality services. Additionally, this Librarian ensures that the Law Library takes full advantage of existing technologies and investigates and adapts new technologies for acquiring, organizing, and presenting legal information to its faculty and students.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provides in-depth research and reference services to our faculty, students, and the legal community.
Participates in the library’s instructional programs, including the provision of legal bibliography and research instruction.
Acts as liaison to assigned faculty members and to the Law Review.
Manages Interlibrary Loan program.
Trains, supervises, and evaluates non-exempt employees who work at Circulation.
Manages hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of student employees who staff the Circulation Desk.
Manages fiscal year student employment budgets and provides budgetary and circulation reports on a regular basis.
Develops, implements, and documents Circulation policies.
Develops proficiency with our Library Services Platform.
Helps to maintain the Library’s web presence, including creating and maintaining LibGuides.
Investigates and adapts new technologies to further the Law Library’s educational mission.
Participates in legal professional activities and associations; attends meetings and workshops; reviews professional literature.
Performs other tasks to support library services and programs as needed.
Qualifications
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES:
Required: Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school. Demonstrated knowledge of basic and advanced legal research sources. Strong service orientation and the ability to interact and to communicate effectively with faculty, students, colleagues, and public patrons. Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative environment. Excellent communication skills and strong writing skills.
Preferred: M.L.I.S. or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution. Professional library experience providing research and reference services. Experience developing web resources. Understanding of current law library practices, services, organization, procedures and technologies, including library computer applications to enhance library services.
ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:
Requires full range of normal body motion to include standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, balancing, and keyboarding. Corrected vision and hearing to normal ranges. The ability to reason and to speak intelligibly, and to handle heavy public contact in person, by telephone, and online. Occasionally lifts up to 30 pounds, carries up to 30 pounds, and pushes/pulls book trucks weighing up to 75 pounds.

Professional library experience providing research and reference services. Experience developing web resources. Understanding of current law library practices, services, organization, procedures and technologies, including library computer applications to enhance library services. </span></span></span></p>\r\n\r\n<p><span style=\"display:block;font-size:14px;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:</span></strong></span></p>\r\n\r\n<p><span style=\"display:block;font-size:14px;\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">Requires full range of normal body motion to include standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, balancing, and keyboarding. Corrected vision and hearing to normal ranges. The ability to reason and to speak intelligibly, and to handle heavy public contact in person, by telephone, and online.
