Description U.S. HISTORY. The Department of History at The University of Memphis invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Teaching in U.S. History. The initial appointment is for one academic year with the possibility of renewal contingent upon available funding. Responsibilities Successful candidates are expected to teach a 4-4 load that includes survey courses in U.S. History (U. S. to 1877; U. S. from 1877) as well as upper-division undergraduate courses based on department needs, in both the classroom and online formats. Qualifications Applicants must have Ph.D. in History in hand prior to time of appointment. Initial review of applications will begin Friday, July 3, 2026, and may continue until the position is filled. Candidates who are called for an interview must notify the Department of Human Resources in writing of any reasonable accommodation needed prior to the date of the interview. Candidates must submit their application through the University of Memphis website. Candidates should have in-hand ready to upload: • Letter of application • C.V. • Sample syllabi for an undergraduate upper-division course and a graduate-level course. • Academic transcript • Full names and contact information (addresses, phone number and email address) for two professional references. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.
