Description PAY AND FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) STATUS : Pay Range: 409 Hourly Rate: $18.19 - $28.20 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt The normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City’s step placement policy. ELIGIBILITY LIST PREFERENCE ORDER Full-time City employees will receive preference in the following order: major division first, then department, then all other full-time City employees. Part-time/year-round City employees will receive preference next. If there are no qualified full-time City employees or part-time/year-round City employees, external applicants will then be considered (when the vacancy is open to external applicants). This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license. JOB SUMMARY This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Fleet Management Division of the General Services Department and is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. However, an eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies, including vacancies in other departments, per provisions of the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement. Essential job functions include: performing work associated with the inspection and preventive maintenance of City-owned automobiles, trucks and other heavy equipment, i.e., inspecting tires/tubes for leaks; repairing and remounting of same and/or replacing with new tires when patching is not feasible; and utilizing work aids such as hydraulic air guns, pressure gauges, jacks and various other hand tools. Additional duties may involve charging or replacing batteries, lubricating grease fittings or body parts and other preventive maintenance functions. The employee may also be required to respond to service calls and operate a City-owned wrecker to tow vehicles. Work instructions are received in verbal or written form and assignments are closely reviewed by the supervisor through inspection of records and observation of work performed. VETERANS PREFERENCE Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. To receive preference, veterans must submit verification of honorable discharge from the United States military service (Department of Defense Form DD214 or NGB Form 22) prior to the closing date of the vacancy announcement. JOB REQUIREMENTS Ability to inspect equipment and perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to use various hand and air tools in work performed. Ability to work independently and with others. Ability to record information accurately. Ability and willingness to exercise safety precautions while working on or around heavy vehicular equipment. Ability to learn. Possession of a valid Driver License (Operator). Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) (Utilities Department). NOTE: Utilities Department employees will be required to possess or obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver License within twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion. Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining a valid Class A Commercial Driver License within twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion. WORKING CONDITIONS Inside and outside exposed to heat, cold, humidity, rain, etc. Possibility of falls from working on and around slippery surfaces. Possibility of body injuries from operating power tools and equipment such as impact wrenches, tire busting equipment, drill press, grinder, etc. Will work four (4) feet or more above ground level when working on certain trucks and equipment, and when operating refueling truck. Will work in confined or cramped positions and be required to assume awkward or strained positions when working under vehicles, removing tires from vehicles and from wheel rims, etc. Will work near moving machinery and vehicles in motion such as handheld power tools, mechanical tire busters, vehicles entering and leaving the shop, etc. Exposed to pronounced strain or vibration, high concentration of dust, and intermittent or continued loud and insistent noises when operating power tools and equipment such as impact wrenches, grinder, drill press, etc. Possibility of second or third degree burns from hot engines, manifolds, or exhaust parts and from operating oxyacetylene welding equipment. Occasional to frequent exposure to chemical irritants such as cleaning solvents, degreasing agents, solvents used in lubrication tasks, etc. Occasional to frequent exposure to noxious odors and infections caused by micro-organisms when working on equipment such as garbage trucks, dead animal trucks, septic tank cleaning trucks, sewage line cleaning trucks and equipment, etc. May be required to work overtime including weekends and holidays. Occasional local area travel to make field service calls and to deliver fuel in the fuel truck. Possibility of injury when checking tires for leaks and filling tires with compressed air. Note : Typical City employee working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, working hours vary (may require work to begin before 8:00 a.m. and/or end beyond 5:00 p.m., and/or may require work on weekends and holidays), and are subject to change, based on the duties and location of the position and the business needs of the assigned work unit/department. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Strength and stamina enough to lift, push, pull, or carry objects weighing 50 to 100 pounds such as tools, pieces of equipment, tires, wheel rims, batteries, drums or oil, etc. Flexibility enough to bend, twist, and reach out to perform duties such as automobile, truck, and equipment maintenance and service tasks. Arm/hand steadiness and manual dexterity enough to use manual and power tools to perform duties such as automobile, truck, and equipment maintenance and service tasks. Near vision enough to perform tasks such as detecting small nails and objects in tires, read part numbers, and connect wires, fuses, etc. Visual color discrimination enough to perform tasks such as accurately matching color- coded wires, lining up color markings when balancing tires, etc. Hearing enough to perform duties such as determining when equipment and machinery are not functioning properly. Hearing enough to perform duties such as determining if tires are inflating properly. Note: The working conditions and physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. OTHER DETAILS Eligibility List: An eligibility list will be established from this posting consisting of applicants who receive a score of 70 percent or better. Multiple selection procedures may be utilized; a minimum of 70 percent or better will be required on each; and the results of multiple selection procedures will be equally weighted. The eligibility list will be in effect for 90 days from the date of the final selection procedure and will be used to fill future vacancies. Pay Method: City employees are required to receive pay electronically, either via direct deposit or pay card.
