Assists with planning, developing, implementing, delivering, and assessing health-related training programs for medical staff. Schedules, supervises, and is responsible for the work of the medical department. Reports to the TCA Program Coordinator and works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Work Hours: 40 hours/week, some holiday/weekend/evening work ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Leads, manages, and evaluates nursing services and medical activities and makes recommendations for improvements. Observes, assesses, plans, intervenes, evaluates outcomes, and documents all aspects of patient care. Supervises, coordinates, and provides direct nursing care and medication administration to individual patients. Provides coordination of staffing and patient care activities in a consultative manner with Licensed Vocational Nurses and/or Medication Aides by addressing performance problems promptly and keeping accurate documentation of interventions. Collaborates with the Program Coordinator, Cadre, and Case Managers to ensure 24-hour continuity of care. Develops training curriculum and coordinates the delivery of health education presentations to cadets, parents of cadets, and TCA staff. Develops, reviews, revises, and explains health care program policies and procedures. Instructs, counsels, and assists youth in meeting their health care needs. Maintains medical records for each TCA youth. Provides consultation, training, and technical assistance to agency staff, care recipients, and parents of cadets. Reviews medical records and patient assessments to determine compliance with care management policies, procedures, correctness of assessment, standards of care, and quality of service. Serves as a resource to TCA staff regarding nursing practices and education programs. Assists in developing guidelines to promote compliance with health-care related laws, rules, and regulations. Serves as the department lead worker providing motivation, direction, supervision, and management to the TCA medical department. Establishes work schedules of assigned medical staff to ensure full coverage and availability to cadets. Maintains inventory levels through weekly medication and supply audits and quarterly order points. Maintains accurate and up-to-date records in all relevant data systems, including Health and Hygiene classes, test results, allergies, sick call documentation, medical appointment notes, and urinalysis results. Attends mandatory training to ensure staff competence and development. Participates in continuing education activities to maintain licensure/certification(s). Attends and participates in ongoing in-service training and other educational programs appropriate to the population/age group to meet the physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs of patients. Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with the agency%27s state employee policies & procedures handbook. REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE: Valid driver’s license is required. *The ability to obtain a Texas Driver’s License will be required within first 30 days of employment.
