    "description": "<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Position Summary </span></p>\n<p><span>Central Presbyterian Church is seeking a relational and experienced pastor who is skilled in grace-based, biblical teaching from a Reformed perspective, gospel-centered community formation and pastoral care, and strategic missional outreach to the city to work under the direction of the Executive Director/Pastor.</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span>Candidates for this position must demonstrate an enthusiastic desire to serve in local church ministry, as evidenced by a love for people and a gift for encouraging them to grow in their commitment to Christ and his mission to the world, and an understanding of and commitment to the theological convictions, vision and values, and philosophy of ministry of Central. This role requires collaborative leadership and entrepreneurial initiative to develop and expand a growing number of ministry programs.</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span>The Pastor of Community and Care will be given opportunities in biblical teaching and discipleship, community formation and pastoral care, Christian education and leadership development, evangelism, mission, service, and the integration of faith and vocation. In addition, the Pastor of Community and Care will be given occasional opportunities to preach and lead worship as needed.</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Job Description</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Personal and Cultural</span></em><br>• Model a life of Christian faithfulness in reliance upon the Holy Spirit by cultivating one’s own<br>spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and physical life and by prioritizing relationships with one’s<br>family.<br>• Cultivate a warm, welcoming, strong, and supportive community across the breadth of the church<br>that unites people across different ages, ethnicities, cultures, and backgrounds.<br>• Provide regular opportunities for spiritual growth through worship, prayer, fellowship, Scripture<br>reading, and service to others.</p>\n<p><br><em><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Community Formation</span></em><br>• Help develop the Community Group strategy and oversee all Community Groups together with the Community Formation team.</p>\n<p>• Recruit, train, and oversee Community Group leaders together with the Community Formation team.<br>• Help develop, promote, and execute a strategy for the multiplication of Community Groups.<br>• Oversee the creation of Community Group studies on a weekly basis together with the Community Formation team.<br>• Work in conjunction with the Community Formation team to cultivate an open and authentic<br>community of people across different ages, ethnicities, cultures, and backgrounds.<br>• Visit each Community Group on a rotating schedule for evaluation and assessment together with the Community Formation team.<br>• Adapt Community Group curriculum and training materials as needed.<br>• Provide ongoing leadership training and assessment for all Community Group leaders.<br>• Provide direction and support to the Men’s and Women’s Bible Studies.</p>\n<p><br><em><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Christian Education and Discipleship</span></em><br>• Help develop and implement training that will encourage and equip Christians to share their faith and also support new believers as they strive to grow in grace.<br>• Help develop and implement a Christian Education program offering a regular catalog of courses<br>on the Bible, theology, Church history, and practical skills, e.g., “How to Share One’s Faith” or “How to Read the Bible.”<br>• Help direct and support special lectures and events.<br>• Participate in preaching and worship-leading opportunities as needed.</p>\n<p><br><em><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Pastoral Care</span></em><br>• Provide pastoral care to those in need of prayer, guidance, and support.<br>• Help oversee counseling situations.<br>• Recruit, train, and oversee lay leaders seeking to provide biblical counsel to others.<br>• Mobilize members of the congregation to provide practical assistance and care to others.<br>• Officiate weddings and funerals and provide premarital counseling as needed.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Qualifications</span><br>• 5+ years of pastoral ministry experience in the context of the local church<br>• An understanding of and commitment to the basic convictions of Reformed theology as expressed in the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms<br>• An understanding of and commitment to the vision and values and philosophy of ministry of Central<br>• Professional demeanor and demonstrated Christian character<br>• An evangelistic heart and a passion for sharing the gospel with others<br>• An ability to effectively teach and apply a Christ-centered approach to Scripture and the Christian life<br>• A strong work ethic and an ability to carry out the various responsibilities of the position<br>• An ability to recruit and develop a committed team of leaders and volunteers<br>• Excellent written and oral communication skills<br>• Excellent organizational and planning skills<br>• High attention to detail and resourceful problem-solving abilities<br>• Self-motivated and intellectually curious with a desire and propensity to learn and improve<br>• Able to handle sensitive and confidential information</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Reporting Relationships</span><br>• The Pastor of Community and Care will report to the Executive Director/Pastor.<br>• Informal interactions with the Executive Director/Pastor are likely to occur on a nearly daily<br>basis, with formal one-on-one meetings occurring once per week.<br>• The Pastor of Community and Care will meet routinely with the Executive Director/Pastor to<br>discuss quarterly and annual goal setting, performance review, Project</span><br>Central Presbyterian Church is a historic, 200-year-old congregation in the heart of New York City that<br>has experienced significant renewal over the past 20 years and is currently home to a diverse body of<br>seasoned leaders, many families, and a dynamic body of students, young professionals, and artists.<br>Central launched Resound Project in 2021 with a vision to strengthen new and existing churches in light<br>of the changing cultural context so that the gospel of Jesus Christ might resound to the next generation.<br>Resound Project is constituted as an initiative housed within Central Church and under the oversight of<br>Central’s officers along with its own President and advisory board. It will remain deeply tied to Central<br>through interlocking board appointments, the fact that Central’s Senior Pastor is Resound Project’s<br>President, and also Central’s role as a leading source of funding for the foreseeable future.
