Ready to lead the charge on the court? We are seeking an energetic, dedicated, and team-oriented Men’s Basketball Head Coach to lead our program at the University of Maine at Farmington. As a mentor and strategist, you will be responsible for every aspect of the program, from high-stakes recruiting to the holistic development of our student-athletes. This role is pivotal in fostering a culture of academic excellence, competitive success, and personal growth.
Based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant, the anticipated annual salary is up to $41,500 plus an employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, and tuition waiver programs for employees and dependents.

Key Responsibilities
On-Court Leadership & Strategy
Master the Court: Lead all aspects of practice, training sessions, and game-day competitions as a teacher of skill and strategy.
Strategic Excellence: Provide expert coaching and real-time strategy development during games.
Film & Analysis: Prepare and present detailed film breakdowns to help players sharpen their basketball IQ and performance.
Peak Performance: Coordinate the team strength & conditioning/off-season training programs to maximize safe performance and minimize injury in collaboration with sports medicine staff.
Recruitment & Roster Management
Build the Future: Identify, recruit, and retain high-caliber student-athletes who align with the University’s values and mission.
Relationship Building: Build lasting relationships with prospective athletes and their families via email, phone, and one-on-one meetings.
Inspire & Motivate: Inspire student-athletes to reach their maximum potential, ensuring they are retained through graduation.
Resource Management: Utilize recruiting platforms (e.g., Front Rush) to effectively manage the prospect pipeline and recruit/supervise student workers and team managers.
Program Administration & Operations
Operational Leadership: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the men’s basketball program, including budget management and expense forecasting.
Logistics & Travel: Organize all team schedules, practice rotations, travel logistics, and meals.
Fundraising & Alumni: Lead fundraising initiatives to support program needs and maintain active, supportive relationships with program alumni.
Collaborative Leadership: Work effectively with assistant coaches and the broader Athletics Department team.
Compliance, Education & Student Success
Compliance: Operate the program in strict accordance with NCAA and North Atlantic Conference (NAC) bylaws.
Academic & Personal Growth: Monitor and promote the academic achievement and personal well-being of all student-athletes.
Professional Development: Attend and participate in department trainings and engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices.
Event Support: Provide event management support for other athletic programs during the fall and spring seasons.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree.
Experience: 3+ years of applicable coaching experience (a combination of equivalent education and experience will be considered).
Compliance: Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
Licensing: A valid State of Maine driver’s license in (good standing per UMS standards).
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree.
Intercollegiate coaching experience and a background as a collegiate basketball competitor.
Demonstrated success in recruiting and fundraising.
Managerial or supervisory experience.
Proficiency in recruiting software (e.g., Front Rush) and budget management.
Certification in strength and conditioning.
