POSITION SUMMARY
Provide and interpret comprehensive audiological evaluations including but not limited to: audiometry, tympanometry, Otoacoustic emissions, acoustic reflex testing, and electro/video nystagmography. Also provide hearing aid evaluation, fitting and maintenance.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Master’s degree in Audiology or graduate from an Au.D program.
Experience:
Three years of audiology experience in a physician practice setting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Knowledge of auditory equipment and measuring instruments.
Must be able to make sound, independent judgments and demonstrate concepts of healthcare team collaboration.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
Knowledge of auditory equipment and procedures, protocols and safety hazards common to administering auditory tests and procedures.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to read, understand and follow written and verbal instructions and procedures.
Excellent prioritizing and problem solving skills.
Ability to identify and troubleshoot equipment problems and perform simple adjustments.
License/Certification/Registration:
Current Pennsylvania license in Audiology.
Must meet and maintain the American Heart Association’s standard for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS).
WORKING CONDITIONS
Exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Requires working in varied settings including exam and audiology rooms. May require working in close quarters.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires full range body motion including manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires a combination of sitting, walking, bending, reaching, lifting and manipulation of patients.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide audiological and vestibular evaluations for patients with balance and hearing disorders. Select, administer and interpret formal and informal tests to determine the extent of a patient’s vestibular and/or hearing impairment.
Provide comprehensive hearing evaluations, Otoacoustic emission and Videonystagmography (VGN) testing and dispense and repair hearing aids.
Screen referred newborn infants and perform follow up evaluations when indicated.
Counsel patients regarding hearing, balance or related problems and provide guidance and instructions as appropriate.
Document the patient’s condition and progress per departmental procedures.
Process patient charges and refer billing questions to the appropriate staff per established procedures.
Interact with the Director of Surgical Specialties regarding fee schedules, policies and procedures, patient care improvements, minimizing costs and revenue maximization.
Interact with community agencies and family/caregivers to provide quality patient care including communicating problems and concerns to the appropriate staff, providing patient education and referrals to specialists/professionals as needed, maintaining communication with referring agencies as needed, and conducting community educational opportunities regarding hearing wellness.
Assist in completion of quality assurance studies, evaluating departmental performance and in initiating measures to improve the quality of services and current practices.
Maintain Audiology facilities, equipment and materials.
Perform other duties as required.
