Board Application Process & Background Information
What is the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific ?
The Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (CSI Pacific) is a world class Olympic and Paralympic training environment.
Through the support of our national and provincial partners, our team of sport scientists and medical experts provides programs and services to athletes and coaches, ensuring they have every advantage to win medals for Canada. For more information about CSI Pacific, please visit www.csipacific.ca .
CSI Pacific operates across three campus locations - Victoria, Vancouver, and Whistler - with funding provided by the Province of BC, viaSport, Own the Podium, Sport Canada, the Canadian Olympic Committee, the Canadian Paralympic Committee, and the Coaching Association of Canada.
CSI Pacific’s sport performance expertise is delivered by expert sport scientists and technical staff in partnership with the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Sport Institute Network (COPSIN) nationally and with the viaSport Regional Alliance, which includes PacificSport Centres, provincially. By collaborating with our regional, provincial, and national sport partners, we are strengthening the sport system in British Columbia. Through these partnerships, CSI Pacific is well positioned as a national leader in Powering Performance and Inspiring Excellence, from the regional level to the international podium.
How is the Board of Directors structured?
The Board comprises a minimum of three and a maximum of twelve Directors, who are elected by the Members at a general meeting. At this time, Canadian Sport Institute Pacific is seeking candidates to fill up to three Board positions. All appointments will be for terms of three-years, commencing at the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting, scheduled for June 23, 2026.
Who is qualified to be a Director?
Understanding that the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific Board operates as a strategic policy Board, Directors should possess a majority of the following attributes:
Knowledge of Sport
Business Acumen
Policy Development
Commitment to Canadian Sport Institute’s Strategic Plan ( https://www.csipacific.ca/who-we-are/strategic-plan/ )
We are also seeking Directors with expertise in the following key skills and attributes:
Board Experience
Para Sport Experience/Knowledge
Not-for-Profit Revenue Funding Experience
Directors must also meet the qualifications laid out on the Societies Act, Section 44 – Persons qualified to be directors:
1. A person is qualified to be a director of a society only if the person is an individual who is at least 18 years of age.
2. Despite subsection (1), an individual who is 16 or 17 years of age is qualified to be a director of a society if provided for in the regulations.
3. Despite subsections (1) and (2), an individual is not qualified to be a director of a society if the individual is
a. found by any court, in Canada or elsewhere, to be incapable of managing the individual's own affairs, unless a court, in Canada or elsewhere, subsequently finds otherwise,
(a.1) a person in respect of whom a certificate of incapability is issued under the Adult Guardianship Act , unless the certificate is subsequently cancelled under section 37 (4) of that Act,
b. an undischarged bankrupt, or
c.convicted in or out of British Columbia of an offence in connection with the promotion, formation or management of a corporation or unincorporated entity, or of an offence involving fraud, unless
(i) the court orders otherwise,
(ii) 5 years have elapsed since the last to occur of
(A) the expiration of the period set for suspension of the passing of sentence without a sentence having been passed,
(B) the imposition of a fine,
(C) the conclusion of the term of any imprisonment, and
(D) the conclusion of the term of any probation imposed, or
(iii) a pardon was granted or issued, or a record suspension was ordered, under the Criminal Records Act (Canada) and the pardon or record suspension, as the case may be, has not been revoked or ceased to have effect.
By completing this application, the applicant confirms that they meet the above criteria and are qualified to serve as a director.
How will Directors be selected?
The selection process has two key objectives, to ensure the Board:
functions as a strategic policy Board rather than a constituency-based representative Board
as a whole, has the knowledge and expertise needed to fulfill the Purpose and Strategic Plan of the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific
CSI Pacific will be relying on the Governance and HR Board Committee which is comprised of no less than three (3) existing Directors to conduct the selection process.
As part of this due-diligence process, short-listed candidates will be interviewed by the Governance and HR Board Committee and reference checks will be completed. The successful candidate(s) will also be required to complete the following items, which will be organized by CSI Pacific:

Comment le conseil d’administration est-il structuré?
Le conseil d’administration est composé d’un minimum de trois et d’un maximum de douze administrateurs et administratrices, élus par les membres lors d’une assemblée générale. À l’heure actuelle, l’Institut canadien du sport Pacifique cherche des candidats et candidates pour pourvoir jusqu’à trois postes au conseil d’administration. Tous les mandats seront d’une durée de trois ans, débutant à la clôture de l’assemblée générale annuelle prévue le 23 juin 2026.

Nous recherchons également des administrateurs et administratrices possédant une expertise dans les compétences et attributs clés suivants :
Les administrateurs et administratrices doivent également satisfaire aux exigences prévues par la Societies Act , article 44 — Personnes admissibles à titre d’administrateurs :

a.1) fait l’objet d’un certificat d’incapacité délivré en vertu de l’ Adult Guardianship Act , à moins que ce certificat ne soit ultérieurement annulé en vertu de l’article 37(4) de cette loi;
b. est un failli non libéré;
c. a été déclarée coupable, en Colombie-Britannique ou ailleurs, d’une infraction liée à la promotion, à la constitution ou à la gestion d’une société ou d’une entité non constituée en personne morale, ou d’une infraction impliquant la fraude, à moins que :
(i) le tribunal n’en décide autrement;
(ii) cinq ans se soient écoulés depuis la plus récente des dates suivantes :
(A) l’expiration de la période fixée pour la suspension du prononcé de la peine sans qu’aucune peine n’ait été prononcée;
(B) l’imposition d’une amende;
(C) la fin de toute période d’emprisonnement;
(D) la fin de toute période de probation imposée;
(iii) un pardon ait été accordé ou une suspension du casier judiciaire ait été ordonnée en vertu de la Loi sur le casier judiciaire (Canada), et que ce pardon ou cette suspension n’ait pas été révoqué ou n’ait pas cessé d’avoir effet.
En remplissant la présente demande, le ou la candidat(e) confirme qu’il ou elle satisfait aux critères ci-dessus et est admissible à occuper un poste d’administrateur ou d’administratrice.
Comment les administrateurs et administratrices seront-ils sélectionnés?
Le processus de sélection vise deux objectifs principaux, afin de s’assurer que le conseil :
fonctionne comme un conseil stratégique axé sur les politiques plutôt que comme un conseil représentatif basé sur des groupes d’intérêt;
possède collectivement les connaissances et l’expertise nécessaires pour réaliser la mission et le plan stratégique de l’Institut canadien du sport Pacifique.
CSI Pacific s’appuiera sur le comité du conseil responsable de la gouvernance et des ressources humaines, composé d’au moins trois (3) administrateurs ou administratrices en poste, pour mener le processus de sélection.
Dans le cadre de ce processus de diligence raisonnable, les candidats et candidates présélectionnés seront interviewés par le comité de gouvernance et des ressources humaines, et des vérifications de références seront effectuées.
