    "description": "<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p><strong>Job Summary</strong></p>\n<p>The Mechanical Engineering Utility Technician is responsible for safely operating, monitoring, adjusting and maintaining a variety of utility systems, including high pressure steam boilers, ammonia refrigeration, well water, potable water, hot water, fire suppression, pneumatic, and HVAC equipment. This role requires hands-on experience with a diverse range of mechanical and electrical systems, as well as the ability to perform routine and emergency repairs, preventative maintenance, and system inspections. The operator must be proactive, self-directed, and able to work effectively with minimal supervision.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Key responsibilities</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Follow all company safety policies and procedures.</li>\n <li>Ensure all assigned daily PM’s are completed.</li>\n <li>Assemble or disassemble complex mechanical, electrical, and utility equipment, components, and systems.</li>\n <li>Monitor, inspect, and test the functionality and quality of mechanical, electrical, and utility equipment, components, and systems.</li>\n <li>Record test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test methods.</li>\n <li>Analyze test results related to design or rated specifications and make modifications as necessary.</li>\n <li>Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, or drawings to determine test specifications and procedures.</li>\n <li>Assist engineers to design, develop, test, or manufacture industrial machinery, consumer products, or other equipment</li>\n <li>Provide technical support to other employees regarding mechanical design, fabrication, testing, or documentation.</li>\n <li>Read dials and meters to determine amperage, voltage, electrical output and input at specific operating temperature to analyze parts performance.</li>\n <li>Test performance of electrical, electronic, mechanical, or integrated systems or equipment.</li>\n <li>Test machines, components, materials, or products to determine characteristics such as performance, strength, or response to stress.</li>\n <li>Use tools ranging from precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices to common hand tools.</li>\n <li>Prepare equipment inspection schedules, reliability schedules, work plans, or other records.</li>\n <li>Listen for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discuss machine operation variations with supervisors or other personnel to diagnose problems or repair machine.</li>\n <li>Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts.</li>\n <li>Calculate required capacities for equipment of proposed system to obtain specified performance and submit data to engineering personnel for approval.</li>\n <li>NOTE: this description is not intended to be all inclusive. An employee may perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization; these duties are considered marginal</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p><strong>Minimum Qualifications (Required)</strong><strong>:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Must be 18 years of age or older</li>\n <li>High school diploma or general education degree (GED)</li>\n <li>Educational requirement: 2 years of course work in an applicable field, practical and theoretical knowledge working directly with a degreed supervisor</li>\n <li>Six-months proven ammonia refrigeration or high-pressure steam system experience</li>\n <li>General mechanical or electrical maintenance experience</li>\n <li>Read, write, and orally communicate in English and ability to work with no or little supervision</li>\n <li>Flexibility to work overtime, weekends and holidays as scheduled</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Ammonia refrigeration or steam system Certifications or licenses (OP 1, Op2 CIRO, PSM)</li>\n <li>Familiarity with PSM / RMP standards</li>\n <li>One-year proven experience in an industrial ammonia refrigeration or high-pressure steam environment</li>\n <li>One-year proven experience in general or advanced Maintenance</li>\n <li>Familiarity with water treatment systems, steam auxiliary equipment, air compressors, air conveyance equipment, pumps, fire suppression, HVAC systems</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Ability and willingness to learn and advance in an industrial ammonia refrigeration environment</li>\n <li>Ability and willingness to learn and advance in an industrial high-pressure steam environment</li>\n <li>Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems</li>\n <li>Ability to perform preventative, routine and emergency maintenance and repairs</li>\n <li>Proficiency in communicating and collaborating with cross-functional teams</li>\n <li>Competency in taking and logging system readings to ensure proper functionality</li>\n <li>Self-directed with a strong ability to work independently</li>\n <li>Detail-orientated with a commitment to maintaining safety and compliance standards</li>\n <li>Proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential issues</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Physical Demands</strong>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
