JOB SUMMARY
Ottawa University’s Overland Park, Kansas Campus invites candidates for a full-time, 12-month Nursing Skills Lab and Simulations Lab Coordinator/Faculty Position . The successful candidate will be responsible for the coordination and operation of the Nursing Skills and Simulation Labs including collaboration with the BSN Program Director, Clinical and Practicum Coordinator, Nursing faculty, and the Director of Nursing to ensure safe and effective use of the simulation lab and skills lab facilities, and maintenance of OSHA standards. The position provides expertise in lab and simulation integration, methods, and technologies, and supports the evidence-based educational experiences for learners. Position teaches prelicensure courses as designated by the BSN Program Director and the Director of Nursing; a 70% faculty/30% Coordinator position, with a course load teaching responsibility of (21) Credits per 12-month academic year.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
NURSING SKILLS AND SIM LAB COORDINATOR:
Collaborates and coordinates with the Director of Undergraduate Nursing Programs, Nursing faculty, and others as appropriate to plan, design, organize, implement, and evaluate current practice standards skills lab and simulation lab activities to meet requirements of the curriculum and student progression needs.
Collaboratively plans and implements Skills and Simulation lab activities with opportunities for the development of critical thinking, decision-making, and decisional analysis skills to promote clinical competency. Is not responsible for implementing Simulations but is available to faculty for technical assistance.
Ensures safety and OSHA standards are maintained in the labs, including disposal of sharps and hazardous waste. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of current nursing lab safety standards and informs program leadership of changes in safety standards.
Maintains adequate skills and simulation lab supply PAR levels by regular monitoring and coordinating with program leadership to order and re-stock needed supplies.
Ensures lab equipment is good working order, and simulation manikins are well maintained. Coordinates with vendors to maintain appropriate warranties.
Collaborates with Nursing faculty to schedule lab activities; maintains a master schedule of scheduled activities, and shares with Nursing leadership and faculty.
Functions as a resource for Nursing faculty in the use of the Skills and Simulation lab and collaborates for use of the labs to provide student remediation.
Provides Skills and Simulation lab orientation to Nursing faculty and students regarding the policies, procedures and utilization of the Skills and Simulation labs.
Key teaching responsibilities include assistance with Skills checkoffs, Simulations for several courses, and open lab and makeup lab hours, with a minimum workload time of (10) hours/week..
Conducts lab tours as requested by Nursing program leadership for internal and external stakeholders.
TEACHING AND ADVISING:
Teaching Load: Teaching a 70% course load, defined as 7 courses per year, or the equivalent of 21 credit hours. Teaching Standards: Maintain a high standard in classroom teaching through engaging and effective pedagogy, exhibiting awareness and understanding of best practices in undergraduate education through application in the classroom, and remaining current with issues, curriculum, and classroom approaches in both the liberal arts and the candidate’s academic discipline. Advising: Attend to student needs and concerns, and work with each student’s advising team members to identify and develop opportunities for each individual learner. Collaborate as needed in scheduling courses, addressing academic concerns, and supporting efforts in retention.
SCHOLARSHIP:
Maintain awareness of contemporary trends and evolving knowledge within one’s academic discipline and in the liberal arts through research, creative work, writing, conference attendance (either virtually or at designated location), public presentations (in-person and virtually), and other involvement in the regional and national community of the Nursing profession and higher education professionals
ASSESSMENT:
Maintain effective curricula through participation in university-wide assessment processes.
SERVICE:
Participate in campus and university-wide governance by responding to and engaging in dialogue related to academic issues across the university.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education : MSN Degree required. Licensure: current license as Registered Nurse in Kansas and Missouri.
Experience : Three years related work experience minimum, nursing education preferred, and one-year prior Skills & SIM Lab oversight experience preferred.

Utilize excellent communication and customer service skills to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and other Skills and Simulation stakeholders.
