Wake Veterinary Hospital and Urgent Care in Knightdale, N.C. is in need of Emergency Veterinary Technicians Full-time, Part-time, or Relief Day Shift Positions At Wake Veterinary Hospital and Urgent Care , our mission is to provide unparalleled and compassionate veterinary care by offering individualized client education, comprehensive preventive care, advanced technological services, specialty surgical services, and emergency interventions in order to provide your pets with the long and happy lives they deserve. WVH&UC has a current opening for a full-time, experienced Registered Veterinary Technician or Experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced emergency department. Emergency Department Veterinary Technician Duties: Provide nursing care to critically ill hospitalized patients in conjunction with specialty and emergency veterinarians Triage incoming patients Assess patient stability and obtain patient vital signs Perform diagnostics and treatments of emergency, specialty, and hospitalized patients Perform hourly patient assessment and monitoring Observe patients and recognize changes in status Place peripheral and central catheters Restrain patients for exams and treatments Set up and administer IV and SQ fluids Maintain urinary catheters Bandage removal and application Perform suture and drain removal Perform drug dose calculations for injectable medications and CRIs Administer injectable medications (IV, IM, SQ) Administer other medications (PO, OU, OD) Maintain isolation protocols for infectious patients Basic wound cleaning and care Administer injectable and inhalant anesthesia Monitor patients while under anesthesia and maintain a monitoring log Monitor patients during recovery from anesthesia Obtain samples for and perform in-house laboratory testing Client communication and education Patient triage and discharge Hospitalized patient care Patient monitoring and treatments In-house laboratory testing Medication calculation and administration Venipuncture; IV catheter placement Digital radiography and more Preferred Education and Experience 1+ years of experience in the veterinary field Preference will be given to an individual desiring to pursue a degree in veterinary technology or animal science
