Description
The Neurophysiology group within the Research and Development organization at our Waltham R&D Site is searching for an experienced neurobiologist with a deep passion for understanding neural circuit functions in the normal and diseased brain. Individuals with extensive in vivo electrophysiology/ physiology experience and interest in connecting circuit- and behavioral-level findings to translational biomarkers are encouraged to apply. The candidate is expected to perform a wide range of discovery neuroscience activities. These include designing and executing rodent behavioral studies, electroencephalography (EEG), and in vivo single unit recordings in freely behaving rodents to probe the neural circuit basis of psychiatric disorders and evaluate the effects of novel therapeutics. In addition, collaborate with cross‑functional partners to identify and validate novel drug targets and advance drug discovery programs. Collectively, these efforts directly support the advancement of mechanism‑based therapeutics and the translation of preclinical insights into clinical impact.
Responsibilities
Key Duties:
Independently design, develop, and implement in vivo protocols and assays Engage in thorough analysis of data collected, generate summaries and interpretations of results, and present summaries within the Neurophysiology group, Neurobiology group, and/or Research Department, and the greater Alkermes community Explore and apply new models, methodologies, and technologies to expand the group’s capabilities and help drive programs forward Contribute to novel target identification and validation strategy across a broad range of CNS
disorders
Technical Skills:
Proficient in vivo electrophysiological/ physiological techniques in freely moving rodents is required Proficient in small rodent surgeries (e.g, electrode implants, cannulation, optical fibers) Proficient in EEG/LFP signal processing (i.e. FFT, Wavelet analyses), spike-train analysis and/or single unit isolation routines is required Significant programming experience (i.e. Matlab, Python, etc…) is required Significant experience with rodent behavioral paradigms is required Solid background in systems neuroscience is highly desired Experience with optogenetic/chemogenetic techniques in vivo is beneficial
Personal Skills:
Must work well in a team environment and have excellent interpersonal skills Well organized and able to multi-task Outstanding personal initiative with the ability to take the lead, influence, and motivate others Strong desire to push the boundaries of the science, champion innovative technologies and approaches, and be flexible to learn and take on new tasks when needed Strong communication skills and ability to distill and present complex datasets into meaningful decision-making information
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience:
A Ph.D. in neuroscience, neurobiology, or related discipline, a MS degree with 5+ years of experience, or a BS degree with 10+ years of experience is required Experience in a biotechnology/pharmaceutical setting is strongly preferred but not required
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $116,000 - $137,000. In addition, this position is eligible for an annual performance pay bonus.
