Veterinary Technician – Role Overview
Veterinary Technicians are the heartbeat of the hospital floor. They partner closely with our doctors to deliver exceptional patient care while keeping treatments, procedures, and workflows running smoothly.
From anesthesia monitoring to client education, technicians play a hands-on role in nearly every part of a patient’s visit. This position blends medical skill, critical thinking, and compassion—supporting patients through everything from routine care to urgent and complex cases.
Technicians are expected to have a strong understanding of medications, common conditions, and preventative care, while also being confident communicators and team players.
This role reports to the Hospital Team Lead and veterinarians. Like any fast-paced hospital role, responsibilities may evolve to meet the needs of our patients and team.
What You’ll Be Doing
Patient Care & Nursing
Be the first line of care: gather histories, assess patients, and obtain TPRs Provide hands-on nursing care for hospitalized and critical patients Administer medications, vaccines, fluids, and treatments as prescribed Place IV catheters and support safe, effective patient handling Intubate and monitor patients under anesthesia Surgery & Dentistry Support
Prep patients and surgical suites with precision and care Assist in surgery while maintaining strict sterile technique Monitor patients closely and ensure all equipment is functioning properly Perform dental cleanings and support oral health procedures Diagnostics & Lab Work
Collect and run lab samples accurately and efficiently Take and process radiographs Support diagnostics using a variety of hospital equipment Pharmacy & Inventory
Handle and administer medications, including controlled substances, responsibly Maintain accurate logs and stay compliant with DEA standards Help keep inventory stocked, organized, and ready for use Client Communication
Be a trusted resource for clients—clear, kind, and informative Educate on medications, diets, and preventative care Support recommendations that improve patient health (dentals, wellness plans, etc.) Hospital Care & Compliance
Keep treatment areas clean, safe, and efficient Maintain and sterilize instruments and equipment Follow OSHA, DEA, and state regulations—and speak up if something isn’t right Team Support
Jump in where needed, including helping at the front desk when required Support your team, your doctors, and the hospital’s standards Help create a positive, accountable, and high-performing environment
