The indoor environment features expansive turbine halls, advanced steam systems, large maintenance workshops equipped for heavy-duty industrial equipment, and secure control centers—offering extensive space ideal for repair, technical, and hands-on roles.</p></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div><h3><b>Summary</b></h3><p>Under direct, indirect, or intermittent supervision, and working a <b>rotating shift schedule or day schedule</b> as required, you will install, repair, overhaul, and maintain a <b>general range of power plant electrical systems and equipment</b>. You may have immediate responsibility at times for the <b>working direction of an apprentice</b>.</p><p></p><h3><b>Key Duties</b></h3><ul><li><p>Perform installation, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of electrical equipment including:<br />Generators, voltage regulator rheostats, exciters, buses &amp; bus duct, transformers, circuit breakers, switches, power circuits, magnetic contactors, motors &amp; motor starters, precipitators, batteries, plant lighting, conduit, wiring, boxes, supports, and hangers.</p></li><li><p>Work from schematics, drawings, and sketches.</p></li><li><p>Execute Workman’s Protection Assurance (WPA) and related procedures to ensure proper isolation and protection of equipment prior to work.</p></li><li><p>On energized equipment, ensure safety devices are in place and understood before work starts.</p></li><li><p>Obtain materials from storeroom; set up rigging and operate lifting equipment.</p></li><li><p>Erect and work from scaffolds.</p></li><li><p>Operate/use mobile equipment, shop equipment, portable power tools, hand tools, and test equipment.</p></li><li><p>Operate acetylene or other cutting/heating torches; check for explosive gases before use when necessary.</p></li><li><p>Prepare reports of work performed (including sketches if needed) and complete forms as required.</p></li><li><p>Work alone or in combination with <b>Electrical Repairman</b> or <b>Repairman (Mechanic)</b> classifications as assigned.</p></li><li><p>Perform similar and less skilled work as required.</p></li></ul><h3></h3><h3><b>Safety &amp; Accountability (Special Responsibilities)</b></h3><ul><li><p>Carry out prescribed safety precautions and safeguards for personal and team protection.</p></li><li><p>Ensure safety of others when working on energized circuits; enforce safety instructions for anyone temporarily under your direction.</p></li><li><p>Perform work without disturbing other equipment; execute orders quickly and properly.</p></li><li><p>Maintain accuracy within required tolerances/specifications and exercise special care to avoid errors in repair/assembly.</p></li><li><p>Use tools, materials, and equipment properly; dispose of surplus/scrap materials appropriately.</p></li><li><p>Keep work areas clean and orderly to promote good work practices and safety.</p></li></ul><h3><b>Cross-Functional Contacts</b></h3><p>Work collaboratively with <b>Dispatchers, Meter &amp; Relay personnel, Plant Operations, Maintenance, and Storeroom</b> supervision and personnel.</p><h3><b>Working Conditions</b></h3><ul><li><p>Full range of temperatures from <b>very hot to sub-freezing</b>; sudden changes may occur.</p></li><li><p>Exposure to noise, dust, dirt, fumes, odors, drafts, and inclement weather.</p></li><li><p>Work in <b>cramped</b> and artificial light conditions is frequently necessary.</p></li></ul><h3></h3><h3><b>Hazards</b></h3><ul><li><p>Possible <b>electrical shocks, burns, or flashes</b> when working on/near energized equipment.</p></li><li><p>Hazards from possible failure of nearby equipment; danger from <b>falls</b> when working at elevation.</p></li><li><p>Usual hazards encountered in electrical construction/maintenance; occasional exposure to <b>noxious fumes</b> in confined spaces.</p></li></ul><h3><b>Qualifications</b></h3><ul><li><p><b>High School Diploma or GED</b><br /><b>AND either:</b></p></li><li><p>Completion of a <b>2-year technical college program</b> <b>and</b> <b>3 years</b> working as an industrial electrician, <b>OR</b></p></li><li><p>Completion of a <b>certified apprentice program</b> <b>and</b> <b>3 years</b> working as an industrial electrician, <b>OR</b></p></li><li><p><b>Ten (10) years</b> working as an industrial electrician.</p></li><li><p>Must be able to <b>climb ramps, ladders, and stairs</b>, work at <b>heights</b> and in <b>confined spaces</b>.</p></li></ul><p></p><h3><b>Additional Information</b></h3><p>Ameren’s selection process includes a series of interviews and may include candidate testing and/or an individual aptitude or skill-based assessment.
