Description

Summary: Make repairs to equipment, make judgment calls in order to keep the road equipment functioning, be able to assess the jobs and repair in a timely manner. Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Other duties may be assigned. Performs major and minor repairs of gasoline and diesel engines. Must be able to analyze the situation and make decisions as to needed repairs or replacement, thus saving taxpayer dollars. Must be able to exercise good judgment in setting priorities based on need, parts, costs, and demands. Keeps work area clean and maintains all safety standards as required by law and the policies of Benton County. Road tests all vehicles and equipment to establish a working knowledge of who it should run and the effectiveness of the repairs. Must travel to the field to make assessments on equipment and make repairs, minimizing down-time. Provides personal tools to accomplish necessary repairs. Performs fabrication work on all equipment as needed. Cross-training in repairing and replacing tires. Qualification Requirements: Experience and considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of various types of heavy equipment and other power driven equipment and tools. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports. Carry out complex oral and written instructions. Ability to analyze and repair mechanical failures. Work effectively with the general public. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Supervisory Responsibilities: This position doesn’t have any supervisory responsibilities. Education and/or Experience: The incumbent must have a high school diploma or equivalent, five-to-eight years of experience in diesel/gasoline mechanics. Trade school coursework/certifications preferred. Working Relationships: Must be able to work well with the operators, supervisors, and staff from other Departments who use County vehicles. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, use hands to handle or feel objects/controls, reach with hands and arms, and talk, see, and hear. The incumbent must regularly lift 40 pounds and occasionally lift items weighing 75 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to see colors. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions. The incumbent is subject to the elements and works under adverse conditions, notably dust, dirt, noise, temperature extremes, oily conditions, and fumes.
