Description
The Monitor Technician / Rhythm Specialist is responsible for the accurate monitoring, analysis, and interpretation of cardiac rhythm data for patients undergoing ambulatory cardiac monitoring. This role supports providers and the Rhythm Management team by ensuring timely identification of abnormal rhythms, proper device utilization, and high-quality patient care outcomes.
The Monitor Technician serves as a key resource for cardiac monitoring workflows, including device preparation, patient education, data review, and documentation, while maintaining compliance with clinical standards and protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Cardiac Monitoring & Rhythm Analysis
Review, analyze, and interpret cardiac rhythm data from various monitoring devices (e.g., Holter, event monitors, MCT, patch monitors). Identify and escalate abnormal or urgent rhythms (e.g., atrial fibrillation, SVT, pauses, ventricular arrhythmias) according to clinical protocols. Ensure accurate and timely documentation of rhythm findings in the EMR. Maintain strong attention to detail when reviewing reports for completeness and accuracy. Device Management & Technical Support
Prepare, assign, and track cardiac monitoring devices for patient use Troubleshoot monitor issues and take appropriate steps toward resolution. Ensure proper device setup, activation, and data transmission Coordinate monitor returns, downloads, and study completion workflows Patient Education & Support
Educate patients on monitor use, care, and return expectations. Provide clear instructions related to wear time, troubleshooting, and compliance. Serve as a point of contact for patient questions related to monitoring devices and studies. Clinical & Operational Support
Collaborate with providers, MAs, and scheduling teams to ensure efficient monitoring workflows. Assist with scheduling, tracking, and follow-up of cardiac monitoring studies. Maintain compliance with documentation standards and internal protocols. Support quality initiatives and process improvements within Rhythm Management. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. 1–3 years of experience in cardiac monitoring, telemetry, or a cardiovascular clinical setting preferred. Basic understanding of cardiac rhythms and arrhythmia recognition. Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience with ambulatory monitoring systems (Holter, MCT, event monitors). Experience working in cardiology, electrophysiology, or rhythm management programs. Core Competencies
Rhythm Analysis Expertise – Ability to recognize and interpret cardiac arrhythmias. Attention to Detail – Ensures accuracy in data review and documentation. Critical Thinking – Identifies issues, evaluates data, and escalates appropriately. Technical Proficiency – Comfortable working with monitoring devices, EMR systems, and reporting tools. Communication Skills – Provides clear, professional communication with patients and care teams. Team Collaboration – Works effectively across departments to support patient care and workflow efficiency. Work Environment
Clinical and/or office-based role within a cardiovascular practice. Frequent use of computers, monitoring platforms, and standard office equipment. Requires coordination with multiple clinic locations and departments. Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods. Manual dexterity for handling monitoring equipment and supplies.
