Please view our benefits guide&nbsp;<a href=\"https://cloud-shirazibenefits.aleragroup.com/city-of-greeley-benefits/\" target=\"_blank\">here</a>.</p><p><strong>Job Summary:</strong></p><p>The Parks Maintenance Technician I performs general upkeep and cleaning of park facilities, public rights-of-way and medians; performs landscape maintenance including irrigation maintenance including drip systems, mowing, watering, pruning, weed control and facility/equipment repairs; operates a variety of motorized equipment; operates a variety of hand and power tools.&nbsp; Off season work includes snow removal for various city facilities as well as repair and maintenance of parks and playground equipment.&nbsp; Position may direct the daily work of seasonal employees.</p><p><strong>Experience, Knowledge, Skills:</strong></p><p>Minimum Requirements</p><ul><li>High school diploma.</li><li>One (1) year ground maintenance experience.</li><li>Possess a valid Colorado driver's license and a good driving record.</li></ul><p>Preferred</p><ul><li>English/Spanish bilingual skills.</li></ul><p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p><ul><li>Knowledge and experience in the use of operating hand and power tools, light trucks, tractors, used in the field of park/athletic field maintenance.</li><li>Knowledge and experience in the upkeep and maintenance of parks including landscaping knowledge and sprinkler systems.</li><li>Basic math skills are necessary to lay out soccer/football fields and base placement for baseball/softball at athletic facilities.</li><li>Ability to solve a variety of problems in situations where there are substantially diversified procedures, specialized standards, and only limited standardization, and have the decision-making ability to achieve the required job results while adhering to specified, acceptable standards, alternatives, and technical practices.</li><li>Knowledge of the business and organizational structure of Colorado municipalities.&nbsp;</li><li>Collaboration skills, including the ability to work with others from different areas and backgrounds to reach a common goal.&nbsp;</li><li>Interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate interaction, communication, and teamwork between others.</li><li>Oral, written, and listening communication skills, including the ability to accurately interpret what others are saying and convey messages, information, concepts, and details accurately and clearly.</li><li>Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple concurrent and competing tasks and responsibilities, and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining personal effectiveness.</li><li>Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and stay on task when completing special projects and daily assignments.</li><li>Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and reliable professional judgment, as well as collaboratively with a team to achieve desired results.</li><li>Ability to maintain a strong work ethic, positive problem-solving attitude, and enthusiasm for the work performed.</li><li>Ability to self-start and take initiative in completing daily tasks and special projects.</li><li>Ability to focus on activities that have the greatest impact on meeting work commitments.</li><li>Ability to establish and maintain partnerships with a variety of internal and external constituencies.</li><li>Ability to navigate a complex political environment.</li></ul><p><strong>Essential Functions:</strong></p><ul><li>Installs, repairs, and maintains irrigation equipment.</li><li>Installs, repairs, and maintains various types of playground equipment.</li><li>Installs, repairs, and maintains other park related equipment including lighting, security cameras, etc.</li><li>Sets up and tears down event specific equipment and facilities.</li><li>Performs maintenance and safety inspections of parks facilities.</li><li>Operates and performs minor maintenance on power equipment used in park maintenance.</li><li>Safely applies pesticides, weed killer, and other chemical agents; use PPE and follow Material Safety Data Sheets.</li><li>Maintains supplies and equipment for ball fields and surrounding facilities.</li><li>Examples of work include:<ul><li>Pulling trash bags (50+ lbs.) out of canisters that can be up to 4 ½ ft tall.</li><li>Changing parking blocks (80+ pounds, 6 ft long).</li><li>Sledgehammer in stakes.</li><li>Lay sod (50+ lbs.); repairing / installing&nbsp;irrigation&nbsp;lines requires applying strength in awkward situations (e.g., 5ft deep x 3 ft wide hole, or laying in on stomach and reaching into hole).</li></ul></li></ul><p>Supervisory Responsibilities</p><ul><li>None</li></ul><p><strong>Work Environment and&nbsp;Physical Requirements:</strong></p><p>Work Environment:</p><ul><li>Exposure to various types of machinery noise - some levels are excessive.</li><li>Exposure to hazardous chemicals.</li><li>May have frequent contact with the public--in person, via email/telephone; and may experience adverse or confrontational situations with&nbsp;internal/external customers.</li><li>Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors in any weather condition.</li><li>Typical hearing protection will be provided.</li><li>Exposure to hazardous chemicals.</li><li>May occasionally stand on concrete for long periods of time.</li><li>Frequent and inflexible deadlines.</li><li>May be asked to drive a personal vehicle for business purposes.</li><li>Subject to driving City vehicles in all weather conditions.</li><li>May be required to conduct business in alternate locations within City buildings or field sites, sometimes in formal settings.</li><li>Requires ability to perform multiple tasks at one time with frequent interruptions.</li><li>May be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays to cover events, Saturday workdays or emergencies.</li><li>Environment is dangerous to having considerable hazards reflect a frequent exposure to conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury; constant exposure to blood borne and air borne pathogens and human feces; exposure to cleaning chemicals, ice melt, paint fumes, fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides; exposure to extreme temperature conditions ranging from below zero to above 100 degrees;
