Description of Job Duty: Full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Violin and Viola, beginning August 2026.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions: Duties include teaching Applied Violin and Viola. Candidate will be principally involved in String education programs, including Pedagogy, String methods, and a supervisory/teaching role in the Tennessee Tech String Project. Duties also include performing in a principal role with the resident professional Bryan Symphony Orchestra and assisting with BSO orchestra sectionals. Additional teaching duties may be assigned depending on departmental needs and the candidate’s expertise. The candidate will be expected to actively recruit violin and viola students and build and maintain professional relationships with K-12 school music teachers. In addition, the successful candidate will engage in university service and outreach.
Physical Demands: Those typical of an office/classroom environment.
Special Instructions: Applicants are required to electronically upload a letter of application; curriculum vitae; complete contact information for three references; and copies of transcripts for all degrees (official transcripts of all degrees conferred and/or documentation of educational qualifications will be required upon hire). Written materials should demonstrate effective teaching experience in violin and viola and other areas of specialty as appropriate to the candidate. Candidates will also submit at least 20 minutes’ worth of audio/video recordings of unedited, live performances on either violin or viola within the past 5 years, demonstrating multiple styles and settings. These recordings should be submitted as a document with direct links to the recordings from a file sharing platform such as YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox, or something similar. All submitted materials become the property of TTU and will not be returned. Submission of materials is the applicant’s responsibility. Salary:
Commensurate with education and experience. Full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position to begin August 1, 2026.
Benefits Information:
Benefits include the accumulation of one (1) sick leave day per month and thirteen (13) University holidays. Other benefits include medical and life insurance (shared cost with the university), retirement, optional 401k, and educational benefits. Deferred income and benefits over 12 months.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Earned Doctorate in Music required ( ABD may be considered, but the candidate must be awarded their Doctorate before the August 1, 2026, starting date). Evidence of excellence as a performer and teacher. Preferred Qualifications: Experience as a professional performer in solo, orchestral, and chamber settings. Experience as a teacher at the College and/or University level, in private instruction and/or in the public schools. Evidence of success in recruiting/retaining high-level students Experience in Research, Scholarship and/or Creative Activity related to violin/viola/string performance and teaching. Potential to develop a regional and national reputation/profile as a teacher and performer of the violin/viola.
