    "description": "<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-weight: bold\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">THIS JOB IS OPEN UNTIL FILLED</span></span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-weight: bold\">Job Position: Firefighter/EMT</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-weight: bold\">Classification: Non-Exempt; Full-time or Part-Time</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Firefighter/EMT</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Under general supervision of the Fire Captain, provides direct services, individually as a member of a team in response to fire, rescue, hazmat, and other calls for service. Additionally, the Firefighter/EMT will respond to medical emergencies and provide prehospital basic life support (BLS) care to victims of injury and illness. A Firefighter/EMT will make medical decisions based on standing orders, protocols, and orders from on and offline medical direction.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Duties</span></p>\n<p>Essential duties are a broad overview of the position expectations and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of skills or responsibilities. The summary of skills is intended to provide a generalized job description and what it takes from the employee to perform it. Above the generalized list of duties, the employee is responsible for all other duties as assigned by the rank of captain or above.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>1.Performs inspections of assigned vehicles and equipment at required intervals and after all incident responses.</p>\n<p>2. Provides emergency medical services and fire suppression services.</p>\n<p>3. The ability to perform fireground activities and duties as assigned.</p>\n<p>4. Participates in fire prevention inspections and pre-planning.</p>\n<p>5. Operates all necessary equipment required for the performance of EMS and fire suppression work.</p>\n<p>6. The ability to read understand the DOT Emergency Response Guidebook and NFPA Hazardous Materials Handbook.</p>\n<p>7. Participates in cleaning and minor maintenance of quarters, equipment, and apparatus.</p>\n<p>8. Performs medical assessment and procedures based on current certification level and medical direction.</p>\n<p>9. Performs other related duties as assigned.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Minimum Qualifications</span></p>\n<p>· High School Diploma or equivalent</p>\n<p>· Must possess National Registry EMT-B (Must be able to obtain AZDHS EMT certification prior to hire date.)</p>\n<p>· IFSAC Firefighter I &amp; II or equivalent</p>\n<p>· Hazardous Materials Operations</p>\n<p>· Arizona class D Driver’s License</p>\n<p>· Must maintain driver insurability under tribal insurance</p>\n<p>· ICS 100, 200, 700, 800</p>\n<p>· Must pass a Federal, State and Local Background Check</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Preferred/Desirable</span></p>\n<p>· Associates Degree in fire science, public administration or other related field</p>\n<p>· MAG 300, 400</p>\n<p>· Wildland FFT2</p>\n<p>· Engine Boss</p>\n<p>· Ropes Rescue I, II, III</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>Any combination of education, training and experience which provides required requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position, may be substituted for evaluation at the discretion of the Director/Fire Chief</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Required knowledge, skills and abilities:</span></p>\n<p>· Ability to maintain AZDHS/NREMT EMT.</p>\n<p>· Ability to exhibit adequate verbal and written skills in business English.</p>\n<p>· Ability to operate a two-way radio.</p>\n<p>· Ability to demonstrate telephone communication skills must be adequate.</p>\n<p>· Ability to speak before groups of people of various sizes and ages is desirable.</p>\n<p>· Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with various Tribal, Federal, State and Local agencies in the field of emergency services, enforcement, and community development.</p>\n<p>· Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented approach.</p>\n<p>· Ability to use various equipment and safety devices such as monitors, protective clothing, body substance isolation techniques etc. when handling patients in the emergency setting.</p>\n<p>· Ability to safely operate fire department apparatus.</p>\n<p>· Ability to operate basic hand tools, forcible entry devices, extrication equipment, generators, lighting equipment, ventilation equipment and specialized rescue devices.</p>\n<p>· Ability to use various equipment and safety devices such as monitors, SCBA, protective clothing, EMS, etc. in the handling of emergency situations.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Performance Aptitude:</span></p>\n<p>Physical abilities: Frequently sits, talks, hears and stands for potentially extended periods of time. Walks and uses hands to manipulate, handle and operate objects, tools, or controls. Reaches with hands and arms. Occasionally climbs or balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, and crawls. Employee is required to have near vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Employee must be able to move independently up to 50 pounds, pull objects weighing 40 pounds or more and will frequently lift objects in excess of 100 pounds</p>\n<p>Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials: Tasks require the ability to operate computers, basic office equipment, telephone, two way radios, measuring devices, MDT, power tools, hand tools, chain saws, shovels, brooms, ladders, exhaust fans. Position also requires the ability to operate a car, truck, fire apparatus, ambulance, patient restraints, first aid equipment, oxygen, electronic testing equipment, medical equipment, and patient lifting devices. Furthermore, the position requires employee to utilize breathing apparatus, hearing and eye protection, firefighting clothing and hazardous chemical clothing.</p>\n<p>Environmental Factors: Some work is performed in a fire station environment but responds to emergencies and is subject to potential personal danger. Exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, fire, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, explosives, firearms, water hazards, violence, disease and pathogenic substances. Exposure to hazardous conditions such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, burns, explosives, heights, physical injury, and fast moving vehicles. Exposure to toxic fumes, irritants, particulates, biological (infectious) and non-biological hazards, and/or heated gases, despite the use of personal protective ensembles and SCBA. Unpredictable emergency requirements for prolonged periods of extreme physical exertion without benefit of warm-up, scheduled rest periods, meals, access to medication(s), or hydration.
