The Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) Division of Cardiology invites applications from outstanding cardiologists with advanced fellowship training in Echocardiography for a Clinician-Scientist position based at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH). VGH is Canada's third-largest hospital and the largest healthcare facility in British Columbia. As a Level 1 quaternary referral centre for the Province of British Columbia, VGH provides highly specialized cardiovascular care and serves as a major centre for cardiovascular education, research, and innovation. The VGH-UBC Echocardiography Laboratory is one of Canada's largest and most academically productive echocardiography programs, performing over 30,000 echocardiographic studies annually and serving as a provincial referral centre for advanced cardiovascular imaging, structural heart disease, and interventional echocardiography. The program is internationally recognized for excellence in cardiovascular imaging, education, and research. The laboratory leads in national multicentre studies and provincial precision health initiatives, including large-scale cardiovascular imaging, genomics, artificial intelligence, and population health programs. The successful candidate will have access to a rich collaborative research environment and will be encouraged to contribute to and lead innovative research initiatives that advance precision health and cardiovascular imaging in British Columbia and across Canada. We are seeking to recruit a Clinician-Scientist and Level III Echocardiographer with expertise in advanced echocardiography, structural heart disease imaging, and interventional echocardiography. The successful candidate must have completed a minimum of one year of dedicated advanced fellowship training in structural heart and interventional echocardiographic imaging, as well as at least one additional year of advanced research training. Applicants should demonstrate excellence as a clinical scientist through a strong record of peer-reviewed publications, scholarly productivity, and a commitment to advancing innovation in cardiovascular imaging. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute substantially to undergraduate, postgraduate, and fellowship education and to develop an independent, externally funded research program. The candidate will be expected to pursue competitive peer-reviewed grant funding, participate in multicentre collaborative research initiatives, mentor trainees and junior faculty, and assume leadership roles that support the continued growth and academic excellence of the VGH-UBC Echocardiography Laboratory and Cardiovascular Imaging Program. The successful applicant will be expected to establish and sustain an externally funded research program and to compete successfully for provincial, national, and international peer-reviewed grant funding. Applicants must possess Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Internal Medicine and Cardiology, or equivalent qualifications, and be eligible for licensure in the Province of British Columbia. Candidates must have completed, or be actively enrolled in, a Master's or PhD program or possess equivalent advanced academic training demonstrating a commitment to a career as an independent clinician-scientist. Applicants should have a demonstrated record of scholarly productivity, including peer-reviewed publications, and evidence of success in obtaining research funding or strong potential to secure competitive peer-reviewed funding as an independent investigator. Candidates should possess outstanding communication skills, demonstrate excellence in teaching and research, and exhibit exceptional professionalism, collegiality, and leadership potential. This role will also include a clinical faculty appointment within the Division of Cardiology at the University of British Columbia (UBC). As part of the Division's academic mission, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute substantially to the growth and development of UBC's cardiovascular education and research programs.
