Description
ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:
This is an entry level position. Under the general supervision of the Product Development/Application Manager, and guidance of experienced Engineers perform a variety of functions in the development and/or improvement of energy products. Perform feasibility studies to determine the technical difficulty, approximate product cost, compatibility of processes to produce the products, and the overall functionality of the product as produced. Prepare trial plans, test plans, and reports associated with product development activities. Perform comparisons of developed products to products offered by the competition as relates to function, cost, and overall quality. Review customer specifications, prepare reports, summaries and analyses; and handle other specific tasks as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with energy product development projects, independently handle less complex portions of projects, or complete tasks as assigned. Perform various duties, including engineering studies and investigations. Work closely with Quality Control, Manufacturing Engineers, Production Supervision, vendors, Maintenance and others in developing trial plans and testing programs for product development. Continuously seek out areas for cost reduction related to cable design including alternative materials, economies of design, reduction of manufacturing complexity which will decrease scrap, and design to take full advantage of cable specifications. Perform feasibility studies involving cost analyses and consideration of alternatives to determine economic advantage of proposed product improvements. Assist in the selection of equipment, machines or tooling, assist in selection of materials, and determine approximate costs that will allow decisions to be made concerning products to be developed. Assist in preparation of capital expenditure appropriation requests working closely with manufacturing engineering and various members of management as required. Work closely with Product Design Engineering in planning production methods for new and revised products. Make recommendations regarding product design from the standpoint of product function and adherence to standards. As necessary, assist supervisors and operators during the course of production as well as with conducting trial runs. In the course of specific projects, exercise partial supervision over machine operations. Prepare operating and process specifications, and other documentation for product development trials and product testing required. Maintain various records related to trials and testing. Publish schedules, project summaries, budgets, test reports, third party testing requirements, and product development reports for product development activities. This requires working knowledge of the requirements for the Product Life Cycle Model utilized by LS cable. Provide updates to products assigned at weekly meetings and as required by management. Work with vendors in investigating improved methods and equipment for new products and the improvement of existing products. Review customer specifications and provide reports to check with plant capability and to recommend possible developments to fulfill customer requirements. Use initiative, ingenuity and sound engineering techniques and approaches while performing technical investigations, using engineering and technical literature. Seek and accept functional guidance and assistance from others on matters within their areas of competence. Through the course of all projects evaluate, promote, recommend, and work toward a safe and accident-free environment. Ensure that operating procedures for all new and existing equipment have been documented for use by others. Exercise responsibility for professional development through continuing study, attending technical society meetings and similar means. Keep informed on developments in methods, machines, equipment, tooling and materials through technical literature, trade shows and vendor visits. Perform other related duties as directed by supervisor . EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
BS in Engineering or equivalent related work experience in the wire and cable industry. SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
