Description
Directs the delivery of ambulatory patient care, which typically includes nursing and may include laboratory, radiology, dental, etc. for large and / or multiple clinic (s) or center (s). Accountable for adherence to patient care practice standards, external regulations and accreditations, and overall direction and management of the clinical staff. Provides supervision to students delivering care. Responsible for overseeing the investigation and resolution of patient complaints. May also manage practice or center management operations.

Responsibilities
% of time Essential Function (Yes/No) Key Responsibilities (To be completed by Supervisor) 7% Participates with senior leadership in developing strategies for directing the patient care delivery system, typically across multiple clinics and / or centers 7% Assures infrastructure is in place to manage quality of care, patient safety, standard work, compliance, risk management and accepted practices across the continuum of care 6% Allocates resources and may also direct fiscal and administrative operations 2% Represents assigned clinics or centers on task forces or committees 3% Participates to develop new programs, review technology improvements, design quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives, etc 3% Promotes an environment for collaborative decision making across large clinics or centers 2% Promotes shared governance to ensure a shared voice in clinical care practice, exchange of ideas, enhanced communication, and continually improved clinical and patient care outcomes 2% Coordinates the resource needs for areas of responsibility, including the review and approval of budgetary recommendations 3% Prepares and reviews variance analyses of budgeted revenues and expenses 3% Responsible for employee recruitment, performance evaluation, progressive discipline, and staff development 2% Instills strong management practices to create a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and timely achievement of objectives and goals 5% Works with clinical educators and leadership to evaluate core competencies in nursing and other clinical care for unit 3% Works collaboratively with Labor Relations on bargaining unit issues and contract negotiations at the local level 2% Facilitates and oversees resolution of human resources, labor relations, and employee safety and risk management issues 15% Improves operational processes by developing nurse-driven protocols, streamlining workflows, and implementing evidence-based practices. Drives innovation to create efficient, patient-centered systems that improve access, reduce bottlenecks, and enhance clinical care delivery across assigned clinics and centers. Identifies opportunities to leverage artificial intelligence tools to support clinical operations, improve decision-making, and automate routine processes. Collaborate with stakeholders to implement AI-driven solutions that enhance efficiency, reduce provider burden, and elevate the quality of patient care. 10% Serves as a clinical and operational leader to ensure uninterrupted patient care during daily operations including staffing crises, labor actions or other emergencies. Actively assesses staffing needs and provides hands-on support, working collaboratively with teams to maintain quality and safety standards under challenging circumstances. 5% Collaborates with senior leaders of the clinic healthcare organization,(e.g department chairs, physician practice leaders, medical directors, executives), to support the achievement of strategic, operating, financial, and customer service goals 2% Collaborates and provides input on marketing, facilities, and fiscal planning 3% Drafts business plans to introduce quality improvements to clinical service delivery in accordance with best practices 5% Provides leadership, implementation support and mentorship for an interdisciplinary team of health care clinicians in efforts to develop healthcare policies, practice standards, and improve services 5% Assists Women's Health Director with the development of annual budgets for patient care services and / or clinic operations. Utilizes A3 thinking, PAR level inventory management, and 5S organizational principles to optimize spending on clinical supplies and ensure resource efficiency. Collaborates with clinical and operational leaders to identify cost-saving opportunities, reduce waste, and align budgetary planning with strategic goals for patient care delivery. 2% Collaborates with subordinate management to recommend and maintain adequate staffing levels 2% Advises senior leaders of administrative and clinical issues and advises on resolution 1% Designs and coordinates patient flow system
Qualifications
Minimum requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required Registered Nurse in the State of California and / or licensure in relevant clinical specialty Previous management experience (minimum of 5 years) in a complex, multi-faceted healthcare environment Experience supervising in a union environment Previous experience (5+ years) experience working in Women’s Health or Surgical Dept Knowledge and understanding of medical office or hospital support operations This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations Experience working with documentation in an Electronic Medical Record and billing systems Strong knowledge of current and emerging best practices and technologies in the clinic / center healthcare industry Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments Practice management knowledge in scheduling, customer-service methods, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and / or information technology In depth clinic / center patient care management skills In-depth knowledge of patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of services Familiar with the policies, best practices, and standards involved with effective clinic / center administration Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration, and consistent achievement of objectives Excellent skills in all aspects of successfully directing clinic / center patient care and / or clinic operations including developing strategic plans, creating benchmarks, integrating programs and functions, and fiscal management Excellent leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to foster and promote an environment for effective communication and collaborative decision making across multiple units and disciplines
