Purpose : The Manager of Engineering is accountable to the Vice President of California Operations and is responsible for providing strategic leadership in the execution of complex power and energy projects, including gas-fired, geothermal, and renewable initiatives. This position oversees engineering governance and implementation, collaborating with clients, project teams, and OEMs to ensure projects are delivered safely, in compliance with regulations, on schedule, and within budget. The role also promotes a high-performing and innovative engineering culture that supports Worley’s growth objectives in the California market. Responsibilities : Provides engineering oversight to a group of employees in multiple engineering disciplines. Accountable for leading team members including their ongoing development and their assignment on projects in compliance with company requirements. Assists in business development activities by facilitating the maintenance of personal profiles and resumes, tracking existing capabilities, and strategically addressing future customer capability requirements. Encourages positive working relationships with external parties such as the customer, suppliers, and contractors. May be involved in networking, negotiations, strategic alliancing, and cost savings efforts. Stewards the maintenance of pricing records reflecting the effort to complete discipline activities. Support proposals by developing the engineering execution strategy, reviewing costs, writing proposal content, and presenting to customers. Business Operations Participates in budgeting and manages engineering operations to the budget. Controls engineering staffing levels, organizational structure, and monitors project discipline structures. Administers engineering software licensing and costs. Creates and maintains engineering guidelines. Ensures mentoring/training requirements are met. Manages the employee performance review process. Facilitates coverage of activities when people leave the team. Contributes to dispute resolution efforts. Ensures cross-disciplined technical work and team activities meet all health, safety, environmental, and security requirements. Technical Competency Owns engineering technical competency and quality programs and oversees technical competency of those within the location. Ensures team member adherence to company processes, generally accepted engineering and design practices, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications. Supports global standardization of equipment specifications, drawings, and document templates and oversees use by the team. Assures the understanding of technical knowledge, legal requirements, and customer specifications whenever viable and lawful. Use loca/global standards to support technical excellence. Stewards discipline checking and technical peer reviews. Management of the resources allocated to projects. Participate in project execution strategy and planning. Drives innovative solutions, technological advances, and methods to effectively deal with working out of sequence. Work with Project Management Teams to take corrective action regarding any issues, staffing requirements, scope changes, progress, or other events that could affect project completion and/or profitability. Reviews and authorizes work done by Discipline Managers. Make engineering management decisions under the general direction of the VP Operations. Manages cross-disciplined resource mobilization and demobilization to maintain sufficient resourcing and ensure cost effectiveness. Accountable for the performance of the team, discipline risks, and driving continuous improvement. Responsible for discipline planning, budgeting, and approval of expenditures. Implements approved discipline programs in accordance with budget and company policy. Communication Effectively communicate and present complex proposals and reports to senior level management. Ability to persuade and influence others. Participative management style with a cooperative team approach. Builds appropriate, constructive, and effective business relationships throughout the organization; uses diplomacy and tact; is approachable; communicates clearly, accurately, and consistently both verbally and in written matters. Action Orientation: Achieves results set by self and others, meets timelines, pushes to achieve stretch goals, and demonstrates enthusiasm, persistence and tenacity. Break down work into executable tasks. Acts accountable for work produced and ensures it is "right the first time.” Intellectual Capacity: Deals with new concepts and complexity comfortably. What you will bring Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications Requirements: 20+ years%27 experience, typically has 15+ years of relevant discipline and multi-discipline experience, 5+ years in project leadership, and 5+ years as a Discipline Manager. Professional registration in local jurisdiction Certified Program Management Professional by a globally recognized project management organization (IPMA, APM, PMI, AIPM). Trained in leadership and project execution. Will be actively licensed with a local engineering governing body required by law. Has a strong understanding of cross-discipline work, interfaces, and sequencing. Well versed in engineering governance, project execution, and fiscal management. Skilled in estimating project costs and writing proposal content. Adept at budgeting and cost control. Competent in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint. Can organize information from many sources and retain as per the prescribed format and policies. Has functional awareness of cross-discipline tools. Experienced in coordinating the establishment/use of integrated tools and delivering the benefits of data centric engineering. HSE Capability Assume hands-on management and implementation of all relevant company HSE requirements. Drive Safe and Sustainable engineering outcomes throughout the asset lifecycle via the application of SEAL. Role-model a commitment to personal well-being and a pro-active approach to continuously improving health, safety and environmental performance. Preferred Experience: Experience in project management, risk management, quality, procurement, or construction execution.
