Our veterinarians and support staff are skilled at calming even the most anxious of pets. As a Cat Friendly Practice, we are especially adept at working with feline patients. We’ll do whatever it takes to earn your pet’s trust because we know that’s the key to providing the best possible care.</p>\n<h2>Position Purpose</h2>\n<p>Come extern with us!Heartland Veterinary Partners' Externship Program works to provide 1st-4th year veterinary students with hands-on experience and mentorship to help have them 'practice ready' by their first day in practice. </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Externships are typically 2 weeks long and Heartland will cover the cost of lodging if needed.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Length of externship is flexible & we can support your preceptorship documentation as well.</p>\n<h2>Essential Responsibilities</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Examine and treat companion animals to detect and determine the nature of disease or injuries.</li>\n <li>Operate diagnostic equipment and collect diagnostic samples as well as interpret results.</li>\n <li>Advise pet owners on preventative care and treatment options.</li>\n <li>Perform surgery and prescribe medication as needed.</li>\n <li>Provide counsel around pet end of life care.</li>\n <li>Maintain patients’ medical records.</li>\n <li>Ensures compliance with veterinary ethics and relevant statues, policies, and procedures.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Requirements/Qualifications</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited AVMA institution.</li>\n <li>Appropriate state licensure.</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Eligibility to obtain DEA/BNDD.</li>\n <li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills.</li>\n <li>Demonstrates professional and courteous presentation consistently with staff and clients.</li>\n <li>Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Benefits Offered</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Unlimited personal time</li>\n <li>Bonus incentives</li>\n <li>Health insurance; dental insurance; vision insurance</li>\n <li>Retirement benefits (401(k), Roth(k) with match)</li>\n <li>CE and licensure reimbursement </li>\n <li>Flexible work schedules</li>\n <li>Managing career path development</li>\n <li>Employee Assistance Program</li>\n <li>DVM Referral Program</li>\n <li>Mental Health Resources</li>\n <li>Relocation assistance available</li>\n</ul>",
