Description
O VERVIEW:
The Preschool Teac her position at Community Seedlings Preschool is responsible for providing instruction to children ages 2½ to 5½ years of age. Seed ling s is a Reggio-Emilia in spi r ed program with a focus on nature-based l ea rning and ed ucation. Preschool Teachers are responsible for encouraging children's curiosity and excitement for learnin g.
Serving as co-researchers, Preschool Teachers at Community Seedlings support the cur iosi ty and excitement for learnin g th at i s inherent in every child. They recognize and honor children's na tural quest to understand their place in the world around them. This is learned through play, small gro up projects, dialogue, journaling, reflection , and documentation of children's work. Preschool T eachers e ncourag e a lov e of learnin g through exploration of art, STEM work, math, social studies, literacy, and the environments of both the indoor and outdoor classrooms.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Essentia l functions include but are not limit ed to the following:
Assist in maintaining a safe and clean l ea rnin g env ironm e nt that supports exploration and discovery in both indoor and outdoor classrooms.
D evelop a positive r e lationship with each c hild and family members.
Plan and prepare learnin g materials such as provocations and natural materials that encourage children to explore and wonder.
Ensure that both indoor and outdoor classroom environments have the necessary materials available to facilitate meaningful play, active exploration and developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
Ensure appropriate gu id a nce and supervision of ch ildren in each learnin g environment.
Maintain documentation of children's learning and development through observation notes.
Prepare m ate rials needed for parent confe rences to communicate children's growth and progress.
Observe children daily to assess and support individual development a nd fac ilitat e l earning .
Check ema il daily and respond w i t hin a time l y manner.
Participate in professional development activ it ies a nd apply that learning in the c l assroom .
Maintain and foster a cooperat ive and positive attitude while working with children, families, a nd the community.
Display a s in cere, nurturing and caring attitude toward all children, families and colleagues.
Demonstrate an awareness of individual fami lie s' cu lture and ens ure a culturally consistent environment for all children and families.
Demonstrate ability to t each ch ildr en from diverse cultural and economic an d b ackgrou nds by implementing inclusive, culturally responsive and differentiated instructional strategies.
Fo llow a ll M andated R eporter requirements and school safety policies.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the classroom and school community.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
H igh schoo l diploma or equ ivalent * Bachelors preferred
Teaching Permit/ or a minimum of 12 ECE units
K nowledge of early childhood development
M inimum of 3 years of experience working with children
K nowledge of computer software and app li cations needed to perform essential
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
Must pass fingerprint clearance, TB test, pre-employment physical, and provide immunization record of measles and pertussis vaccines.
Must complete required training upon hire: CPR, First Aid, Mandated Reporter, and Sexual Harassment.
