Description

Overview Hexagon Autonomous Solutions is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design and environmental validation of ruggedized enclosures and mounting systems for smart antennas, radar/lidar/camera modules, and high-performance compute platforms. Your work will ensure these systems operate reliably in harsh automotive and industrial environments. The Location:  Hexagon is a global company with offices around the world. This position can be located in Calgary, AB. Responsibilities As a Mechanical Engineer , responsibilities include: Mechanical Design Design enclosures and mounts for sensors and compute units with IP67+ sealing and thermal management. Develop 3D CAD models and detailed drawings using tools like SolidWorks or Creo. Optimize designs for manufacturability, serviceability, and cost. Thermal & Structural Analysis Perform thermal simulations and structural FEA to validate designs under extreme conditions. Design passive and active cooling solutions for high-power compute systems. Environmental & Durability Testing Define and execute test plans for vibration, shock, thermal cycling, and ingress protection. Support certification efforts for automotive and industrial standards. Prototyping & Integration Oversee prototype builds and support integration of mechanical systems with electrical and optical components. Collaborate with suppliers and contract manufacturers for tooling and production. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with electrical, systems, and software teams to ensure cohesive product development. Participate in design reviews and contribute to system-level architecture decisions. Qualifications Must-Have: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering. 5+ years of experience in ruggedized product design, preferably in automotive or industrial sectors. Strong knowledge of materials, sealing techniques, and thermal management. Experience with IP67/IP69K design, vibration isolation, and EMI shielding. Key Success Factors: Able to work in a collaborative, multi-site, team environment Confident Self-starter Detail oriented person able to follow complex instructions with a “first-time right” attitude Motivated by challenging work Nice to Have: Familiarity with automotive standards (e.g., ISO 16750, LV124) is a strong asset.
