The organization plants more than 7,000 trees each year grown at our own nursery; cares and maintains those trees; conserves greenspace; conducts school and community-based youth STEM programming; and advocates for stronger policies and laws to preserve trees across the area. Casey Trees emphasizes innovative solutions and working with diverse partners to advance and promote tree canopy solutions that meet the needs of the communities that we serve.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Summary&nbsp;</strong></p><p>The GIS Technician connects people to trees using maps and data. The incumbent supports the Tree Operations department on a range of initiatives including grant reporting, entering and maintaining tree planting data, drafting maps to support planting and conservation programs, and administrative functions.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Essential Functions</strong></p><ul type=\"disc\"><li>Coordinates with members of the Tree Operations team to deliver mapping products in a timely and accurate manner</li><li>Assists GIS Manager with administrative tasks in preparation for and reconciliation of tree installations</li><li>Collaborates with GIS Manager and external partners to prepare, collect and analyze tree inventory and survival data</li><li>Assists with preparation and delivery of maintenance maps (pruning, watering survivability), reconciling results with database at regular intervals</li><li>Works in a team environment to produce, maintain and share geospatial data</li><li>Performs maintenance updates on annually published public-facing maps and other cartographic resources using ArcGIS Online</li><li>Assists with grant reporting in Tree Operations department by creating appropriate queries and report data from GIS database to GIS Manager and Tree Operations Director</li><li>Supports completion of departmental administrative items including purchasing supplies, processing payables and receivables, and email communication with program participants.&nbsp;</li><li>Contribute to organizational social media and weekly newsletter as requested</li><li>Provide support and training for staff using GIS tools produced by Data Services team</li><li>Assists with field work and community events on an as-needed basis</li><li>Other duties as assigned</li></ul><p><strong>Competencies</strong></p><table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" style=\"height: 105px;\"><tbody><tr style=\"height: 52px;\"><td valign=\"top\" style=\"width: 30%;\"><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li>Self-Motivation</li></ul></td><td valign=\"top\" style=\"width: 33%;\"><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li>Problem Solving</li></ul></td><td valign=\"top\" style=\"width: 37%;\"><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li>Communication Proficiency</li></ul></td></tr><tr style=\"height: 52px;\"><td valign=\"top\" style=\"width: 30%;\"><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li>Detail Oriented</li></ul></td><td valign=\"top\" style=\"width: 33%;\"><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li>Accuracy</li></ul></td><td valign=\"top\" style=\"width: 37%;\"><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li>Analytical Skills</li></ul></td></tr></tbody></table><p><strong>Supervisory Responsibilities&nbsp;</strong></p><p>The incumbent will not have any direct reports.</p><p><strong>Working Conditions</strong></p><p>The incumbent works in the office and occasionally in the field to collect data. Must be able to use equipment such as (not an exclusive list): desktop computer, printer/plotter, smart phones, iPad, and other mobile devices.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Physical Demands:&nbsp;</strong></p><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li>While this is primarily a desk job, all CT employees may engage in tree planting/related activities in outdoor environments, year-round in the heat, cold and inclement weather and must have suitable clothing. The incumbent is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, lift files, open filing cabinets, bend or stand on a stool, etc.</li></ul><p><strong>Position Type/Expected Hours of Work</strong></p><p>This is a full-time, non-exempt position, averaging 40 hours a week. The incumbent must be able and willing to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours when needed. This position requires and prioritizes in person components in CT&rsquo;s office environment, in the field, and between CT sites. &nbsp;</p><p><strong>Travel</strong></p><p>Travel is primarily local to the greater Washington, DC metro area including occasional travel to Casey Tree Farm in Berryville, VA.
