    "requisitionDescription": "<div><p id=\"isPasted\"><strong>Job Title:</strong> Data Reporter</p><p>One of the newsiest &ndash; and most fun &ndash; cities in America needs a data reporter who can pull key insights out of complex databases, use data to bolster investigations and distill dense numbers into reader-friendly copy and graphics.<br>&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;The Times-Picayune | The Advocate is looking for a nimble data reporter to join our investigative team. The person in this role should be comfortable requesting data, creating databases, analyzing them and using those to create excellent journalism.<br>&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;We are looking for a self-starter who is comfortable taking the lead on data journalism across our platforms.<br>&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;Our data reporter will work with both short-term and long-term stories and deadlines, as they will both contribute to daily coverage and to our ongoing investigations and projects. While their job will be primarily data-driven, they should have sound news judgement and understanding of how to deepen news coverage with data.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;We are looking for someone with:<br>&nbsp;-Prior professional journalism experience<br>&nbsp;-The ability to use tools such as Python, SQL or R to scrape, clean and analyze data<br>&nbsp;-Familiarity with using GIS and mapping data<br>&nbsp;-Interest in finding stories and insights from dense databases that cover a range of topics, from crime to education to Census figures<br>&nbsp;-A collaborative nature and willingness to work closely with reporters, our graphics editor and our digital team for online data displays<br>&nbsp;-High journalism standards for accuracy and accountability, including a willingness to ensure your databases are bulletproof<br>&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;We are the largest news organization in the state, with newsrooms that work collaboratively across New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Acadiana and Shreveport.
