The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) College of Nursing invites exceptional and promising nurse leaders to apply for Non-Tenured, Open Rank professorial and clinical instructor faculty positions in the Department of Biobehavioral Nursing Science’s Nurse Anesthesia Program. Faculty in the CRNA program will teach at the graduate level; be involved in the course and/or curriculum development, research/scholarship; and be an active member of the program, College of Nursing, and Samuel Merritt University committees and initiatives. Faculty are dedicated to advancing biological, behavioral and clinical science for adults with complex health disorders, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and more. Department faculty are leaders in professional organizations and serve on national research and professional boards, such as the Scientific Review Sections for the National Institutes of Health, the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, and the Board of Scientific Advisors of the National Cancer Institute. Applicant’s rank (Clinical Instructor, Clinical/Teaching/Research Assistant Professor, Clinical/Teaching/Research Associate Professor, or Clinical/Teaching/Research Professor) and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. Salary is based on 9-month academic appointments paid over twelve months. Duties Responsibilities Teaching : Non-Tenure Track professorial faculty participate in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels. Undergraduate and graduate teaching consists of traditional classroom lectures, seminars, distance learning and small groups for clinical instruction. · Demonstrates a range of teaching activities (e.g., teaching assistantships, lectures, courses taught, hours and nature of direct student teaching, numbers of students) · Demonstrates practice expertise in area of specialization (e.g., national certification/credentials as appropriate) · Uses current knowledge and/or research in teaching Scholarship/Research : Nursing scholarship and research span broad content areas, diverse research designs and methodological strategies, including those associated with the biological and social sciences as well as the humanities. • Articulates a plan for a program of scholarship related to practice • Evidence of scholarly activities (e.g., presentations, publications, guideline development) Practice/Service : Non-Tenure Track faculty may contribute to the service mission of the university commensurate with their percent of time allocated to the College. Service activities are conducted in a culturally safe and appropriate manner that demonstrate value for the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. Participation may include service at local, regional, national, and international level. • Participates in professional organizations • Defines and develops a practice area • Supports healthcare needs of diverse individuals As faculty in the Nurse Anesthesia Program, typical duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: · Teach at the graduate level in ADNP courses and is responsible for the conduct of assigned didactic courses. · Responsible for planning courses, sequencing, and scheduling, lecture and/or coordination of guest faculty and composing/administering examinations, grading and conducting competency evaluations. · Mentorship of students completing DNP projects · Conducts clinical teaching and simulation labs, advising, and administration of comprehensive (oral and written) exams. · Coordinates simulation activities (planning and implementation), for example, ACRMs, admissions applicant file review and interviews, Robinson Rounds, completion ceremonies, orientation, annual department retreat, and Diversity in Nurse Anesthesia Mentorship events. · Faculty may also assume duties of advisement and be available for student counseling, as required. · Service to and participation in program, College, University and professional communities. · Participation in new student orientation activities, program open houses, admissions, accreditation activities, exit interviews of graduates and special events. · Represents the program at the local, state and national meeting levels. · Maintains effective professional relationships within the program, the CRNA profession, in the clinical environment and the community.
